SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Four-Not” Edition

by Steeldad

Good Monday to you Steelers’ fans and welcome to Draft Week!

I start off today by putting an end to some nonsense. The Jacksonville Jaguars announced this past weekend they would listen to trade offers for running back Leonard Fournette. And right on cue, many Steelers’ fans screamed “we need to trade for him!” OK, OK… let me explain here. Fournette is coming off of a pretty good season – one in which he stayed pretty healthy – but this is a guy with baggage. Fournette has had discipline and maturity issues since he arrived there. Questions have bounced around about his commitment and overall health too. But he’s also entering his fourth season and the Jags have no intention of giving him his fifth-year option. Any team trading for him would need to either be willing to give him that option or hope he performs well enough to garner a decent trade. I don’t see the Steelers willing to deal with any of this baggage and furthermore, they aren’t in a place salary cap wise to bring him on. I know I’m wasting my breath here but it would be great if Steelers’ fans didn’t fall for every single guy that becomes available.

Our Draft Content

We published a ton of great Steelers-related draft content last week and that’ll be the case over the next couple of days as we get to the Draft. We will also have our Defensive focused podcast coming up as well after doing the offensive preview last week. Make sure you check it all out.

Tweet of the Day… Trai is one of my favorite former Steelers and a great follow on Twitter.

Smoke…

This NFL Draft season has been the most unique is many years. Probably as strange as any going back to 1984 when the USFL was taking players away from the NFL by holding its draft first. Normally we get tons of smokescreens by general managers and coaches in efforts to get people thinking in the wrong direction. With no private visits and little information about who teams are talking to the smoke is there and it may actually be thicker than normal.

Another XFL’er

The Steelers brought in yet another veteran of the XFL in offensive tackle Jarron Jones. For those of you who are football diehards you may remember that Jones was a defensive tackle when he was coming out of Notre Dame. He spent time with as many as five different NFL teams including the Giants, Seahawks, Lions and Cowboys. With just six selections in this draft, I continue to believe this is a solid strategy by Kevin Colbert in terms of stocking up on XFL players.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
