SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “First Day of Rest” Edition

Good Tuesday to you Steelers’ Fans!

Today is a much needed day of rest for the Steelers. For guys like James Harrison it probably means another day in the weight room and while many guys will no doubt rest their bodies, there will still be activity around St. Vincent’s College. They’ll resume practice tomorrow.

Martellus Bennett tweeted yesterday “Look, football is great but I ain’t dying for his shit.” Did someone ask him to? See, comments like this irritate me. Did any of these guys who have played football NOT know that they were playing a violent and dangerous game? It’s like all of the sudden this CTE talk is making them think twice about playing football. What in the hell did you think you were doing??? It’s like a stuntman being told his job was “dangerous to his health” and him not knowing it until that moment. Sheesh.

Apparently Bennett’s tweet was in response to NY Jets’ rookie Jamal Adams comment that he would “die on the football field.” If you watch the interview, it’s pretty damn clear the young man is talking about his passion for the game. The comment has NOTHING to do with CTE. This is how hyper-sensitive we are now and I’m not saying we shouldn’t be concerned but let’s not go overboard.

Tweet of the Day… Talk about a photo bomb!

Remember Jesse James‘ very first appearance in a Steelers’ jersey? He dropped several passes and looked like he’d never played the game before. He’s come a long way since then but in Camp so far he’s been very inconsistent. If he’s going to be the tight end the Steelers need he has to get better.

The main reason Martavis Bryant hasn’t been fully reinstated is because he has yet procure a facility in Pittsburgh that will help him with his recovery. Once the NFL has that information he will be fully reinstated. (h/t Jacob Klinger)

With James Conner dinged up I’m going to guess he probably won’t see action in the first preseason game and I’m just guessing based on past, similar situations. That could give guys like Terrell Watson and Trey Williams a little more playing time than first anticipated.

For all the talk that Jerald Hawkins was ready to push Alejandro Villanueva… Hawkins has been very average so far in camp. Perhaps seeing Big Al get that contract told Hawkins he needed to do a lot more and it hasn’t set in yet.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
