SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Finalists” Edition

Good Friday to you Steelers’ fans.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame has announced that Troy Polamalu and Alan Faneca have made the list of finalists for entry into the Hall. I believe I speak for all of us when I say that Polamalu not being a first ballot selection would amount to a crime. While I’m at it you can grab your “first ballot” t-shirt right here… As for Faneca, it was in my opinion a crime that he did not get in last year when Kevin Mawae did. Faneca was more awarded, won more big games and was flat-out better than Mawae but lost out due to politics. Mawae was a leader in the Players’ Association and that definitely held sway with some voters. It also helped that there continues to be a “Steelers Bias” by some writers because they believe the Steelers already have “too many players” in the Hall. That’s a bunch of BS in my opinion. If the player is deserving then you vote him in regardless of the logo on the helmet. I fear that with Polamalu being a shoo-in, Faneca will again have to wait but I hope I’m wrong. Either way, congrats to both of these men.

“We Need That Guy!”

No fan base in America screams for a soon-to-be free agent quite like Steelers’ fans do. I get it, I really do, but this isn’t a video game. There are salary cap implications. There are ‘fit’ implications. There are background checks. And so on and so forth… Let’s give the Steelers’ front office a chance to decide who they are going to keep before we decide who we are going after.

Tweet of the Day… Someone at SCB is older!

The Postseason

Tomorrow begins the NFL Playoffs and I’ll watch but I’m certainly not going to set my alarm for them. My number one goal is that hopefully the Pats are knocked out. I literally can’t stand another Super Bowl with them in it. Secondly is that someone beats the Ravens for obvious reasons. Third, I’d love to see either Buffalo or Kansas City come out of the AFC. As for the NFC, San Francisco needs to lose. Having New England with six Super Bowl titles already irritates me so the Niners getting six would be even worse. Aaron Rodgers isn’t playing well enough for me. Seattle and Philly are both banged up. Therefore, I think New Orleans is my pick.

Be Grateful

I don’t agree with everything Art Rooney II and company do but I also respect the fact that I don’t always know the whole story with every decision that’s made. As I’ve written before, I will take the Rooney Family and any differences I may have with them over what goes on in Dallas every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Be grateful that ARII isn’t on the radio every week and doesn’t do interviews after every single game. I know I am.

Have a great weekend Steeler Nation.
