SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Don’t Underestimate” Edition

Good Wednesday to you Steelers fans.

I’m already sensing several disturbances in the Steelers Nation forces and it’s only Wednesday. I’m getting the very distinct feeling that fans are underestimating the Las Vegas Raiders and I honestly do not know why. If this sentiment trickles down to the players then we could be in trouble on Sunday. What am I worried about? How about everything! I’ve seen the Raiders come into Heinz Field before as underdogs and leave with a victory. I’ve also seen Steelers’ teams have big wins on the road only to come home and lay an egg. The Raiders have a damn good tight end in Darren Waller and in case you’ve forgotten, Pittsburgh doesn’t have a great history of locking up good tight ends. So when I’m asked what I’m worried about those are the three most important things among others. Bottom line? We as fans have no business looking past the Raiders any more than the players and coaches do.

Tomlin Tuesday

The most important thing Mike Tomlin said in his weekly presser was that the team came through the game in Buffalo with few if any injuries of significance. Whether week two or week 12 this is good news. Tomlin also said he expects a raucous crowd on Sunday and hopes they make it difficult for the Raiders at the line of scrimmage. I believe you’ve been given an assignment Steelers Nation!

Tweet of the Day… For those older you probably remember Norm MacDonald. Such a funny guy. He passed at 61 yeesterday.

My Concerns

I have already given you reasons not to look past the Raiders but here’s something that keeps me up at night. The thought of Chuks Okorafor and Dan Moore battling Maxx Crosby and Yannick Ngakoue for 60 minutes. They gave the Ravens fits Monday Night and may have been the biggest reason the Raiders were able to pull off the overtime win. Moore was solid in his rookie debut at a premium position. There were ups and downs as there for every player but overall Moore hung in there well. Okorafor flashed at times but is still largely underwhelming especially in pass protection and in the running game. If Vegas is getting pressure with just four rushers as we did to Buffalo last week then it cold be a very long day for the offense.

The Bos

Lost in much of the talk about the blocked punt and poor opening kickoff was the field goal made by Chris Boswell to put the Steelers up by ten. Not only was that a big kick in terms of the score but it was fourth quarter, using a new holder and with a very windy Highmark Stadium. I don’t think enough of us realized just how breezy it was Sunday. Sure, Bos is a veteran kicker and you expect him to make 46-yarders with regularity but that doesn’t mean it’s easy.
