SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The ‘Decision’ Edition

Good Tuesday to you Steelers fans.

I’m not going to say anything you haven’t heard in the last 24 hours regarding Deshaun Watson but I’ll share my opinion. First of all, to the women who support the Steelers and the NFL, I would ask you “How do you feel today?” I told my daughter, who is an adult by the way, that she better not be buying “pink” Steelers gear come October. While the cause of breast cancer needs no explanation, the idea that the NFL actually cares about women is laughable. Even if half of these women let’s say are lying about Watson’s actions that’s still a huge number of inappropriate actions. I understand how the judge came to her conclusions but then again… I don’t. I don’t see how a person gets a year’s suspension for a betting slip and how a person gets six games for the slightest PED use and then a guy gets six games for all this?? It makes little sense to me.

The Bos

Not surprisingly the Steelers have Chris Boswell a well-deserved contract extension. He’s now paid pretty much on par with Justin Tucker who no one argues is the best kicker in the NFL. Tucker has more length than Boswell but other than that these two have been pretty even. The deal is four years and $20 million with $12.5 guaranteed. It was the right move and a good move. This is what you do with the fourth most accurate kicker in league history.

Tweet of the Day… Tough break, no pun intended, for the former Steelers’ wideout.

Let’s Talk Camp

Mark Kaboly of The Athletic made a very interesting comment this week. He believes there could be a good chance that Robert Spillane starts over Devin Bush. He says that it’s based simply on overall play so far in camp, which has included one day of contact, but that’s alarming if it comes to fruition… Kenny Pickett was elevated to the second team yesterday despite a rough go last week. To this point, none of the QBs has really separated themselves from the pack. Mason Rudolph has been the most consistent but even he’s had his struggles. The point here is that the Steelers are still without a true starter at this early point… Who will start at left guard? No one knows. Kevin Dotson? Kendrick Green? At this point it could be me… With Najee Harris getting stepped on and missing the rest of practice, other guys got solid opportunities and this is exactly how players make rosters… Chase Claypool and Pat Freiermuth are both banged up but neither is thought to be serious… I really think Gunner Olszewski is going to be a fan favorite this year. He may be from Texas but his mentality fits the blue collar mold of Pittsburgh perfectly.
