SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Coaches in Demand” Edition

Ryan Shazier - Steelers

Good day Steelers’ Fans!

Two different Steelers’ coaches have appeared on the radar of other teams. Offensive Coordinator Todd Haley is thought to be a potential candidate for the same position in Dallas while Offensive Line Coach Mike Munchak is expected to be a candidate for the now open Head Coaching position in Arizona. Both Haley and Munchak have previous head coaching experience. It’s no secret that Haley finding employment elsewhere wouldn’t exactly anger the majority of Steeler Nation. Munchak leaving would not be good however.

I thought there would be some changes to the staff after last season and I was wrong. I feel more confident that there will be at least one or two moves made but much will depend on how the season ends.

If in fact Ryan Shazier is unavailable for next season then inside linebacker suddenly becomes a major need. Based on what I’ve seen of him, Georgia’s Roquan Smith would look excellent in Black and Gold. He struggled in the first half of the Bulldogs’ win over Oklahoma last night but was sensational in the second half. The draft is a long way off but it was hard not to notice this guy.

Tweet of the Day… Couldn’t agree more Cam. Bizarre.

Going back to our podcasts after the draft and as Training Camp began, our overwhelming feeling about JuJu Smith-Schuster was that he would become a very good receiver and that in time, fans would love him. The fact that he has blown away all expectations is both surprising and extremely welcome. He could be a huge difference maker in the postseason.

If you asked me right now who has to play “out of their minds good” for the Steelers to advance to the Super Bowl I’d tell you two guys. Sean Spence and Mike Mitchell. Spence has to tackle better and fill gaps more consistently while Mitchell has to be able to see deep throws sooner. He’s frequently late on getting over and that can’t happen in the postseason.

The Steelers do not have to reveal any injury reports this week so we won’t get much on Antonio Brown or B.J. Finney until next week.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
