SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Bright Side” Edition

Good Thursday to you Steelers fans.

I’ve always believed that it’s harder to be positive than it is to be negative. Why? I honestly don’t know. Perhaps it’s buried down somewhere in my German-Irish roots. But today I’m looking on the bright side of things related to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Instead of my genuine concern for the offensive line I’m going to take a different approach. What if things click with this group? With Shaun Sarrett was a bigger problem than we all knew? The elevation of Adrian Klemm as the top dog on the O-Line could be just what the doctor ordered. That’s likely just one piece of the puzzle however. David DeCastro played last season with multiple injuries and was never himself. If he is healthy then I have every expectation that he’ll be again one of the top guards in football. What if Zach Banner and Chuks Okorafor take massive steps forward in both pass protection and run blocking? Do you have any idea how good this offense can be if those two elevate their level of play? Rookie Center Kendrick Green is as raw as one can get with just a handful of starts at center but I have a very strong feeling that he’s going to push to be the opening day center. And then there’s Kevin Dotson who came from total obscurity as a mid-round pick from a smaller school down south to instantly become a fan favorite. The man is a human bulldozer and we have every expectation that his journey will continue in an upward trajectory. Any or all of those things could go wrong but I just have to hope things go right. It’s too enticing to think otherwise.

Tweet of the Day… We’ve been told this as well.

Speaking of Al

I was told hours after I wrote this piece on Alejandro Villanueva’s comments that he may have been just messing with this former teammate. I hope that’s the case but as far as I’m concerned he didn’t need to go there because all it does is get people like me (admittedly) fired up.

Schedule Stuff

Next week is the always anticipated release of the NFL schedule. As many of you know, the Steelers face (on paper) the most difficult schedule in the NFL. The League could either help this situation or hurt it depending on how they lay out the games. Mike Tomlin teams have traditionally fared well in the Eastern Time Zone. When they head West? Not so much. This year they’ll play in the Central Time Zone three times (Green Bay, Kansas City and Minnesota). They only have the one Pacific Coast Time Zone game which is in LA versus the Chargers. The remaining road games are all in the East (Buffalo, Baltimore, Cleveland and Cincinnati). Where the schedule makers could hurt them most is by playing primetime games in the Central or West only to be followed by AFC North road trips as well. Don’t be surprised if this happens at least once and it will probably be a Monday Night game in LA followed by a trip to Baltimore. Call it a hunch.
