Good Friday to you Steelers fans.
It probably doesn’t surprise anyone to know that the Steelers have been really good in home openers since Heinz Field opened its’ door back in 2001. They have one of the top records in the NFL in that span going 15-4 but… The last two home openers have not gone quite as well. In 2018, the Steelers fell behind the very young Patrick Mahomes, rallied, but eventually fell short losing 42-37. In 2019, the Steelers lost a close game against Russell Wilson and the Seahawks but the bigger news was that Ben Roethlisberger had left the game and would need elbow surgery. The good news here is that the Steelers lost two close games to two of the best quarterbacks in the NFL and there are plenty of teams that have faced similar results. The better news is that this weekend, they are playing the Denver Broncos and Drew Lock who I wouldn’t quite put in the same category as those two. Ultimately, that doesn’t mean a darn thing unless you prove it on the field. Here’s hoping the streak is broken on Sunday afternoon along the river.

This week, Ian and I had a chance to interview former Steelers’ linebacker Levon Kirkland. He was a two-time All-Pro for the Black and Gold and recorded 10 tackles and a sack in Super Bowl XXX. Highlights from Week One courtesy Kel
On the Injury Front
Right now, David DeCastro looks like a “no go” again for the Steelers this week as he continues to deal with a knee issue. His replacement from last week, Stefen Wisniewski, is battling a torn pectoral. The positive news there is that it appears he won’t need surgery right now. These types of injuries often lead to season’s being lost, just ask Cam Heyward. As it stands right now, rookie Kevin Dotson will get the start. Talk about baptism by fire, across from him will be Jurrell Casey who has been known to wreck havoc on many linemen. Dotson shouldn’t have an issue in the running game where he thrives but it’s pass protection where he’ll be challenged.
No Shell Game for Snell
I see no reason why Benny Snell shouldn’t get the start on Sunday at running back. James Conner, who is practicing this week despite a tweaked ankle just wasn’t effective. When Snell came in, the running game looked immediately different and the results paid off. There should be no other way to go with this other than Mike Tomlin starting Snell and using Conner to spell him. Playing games with Snell after his performance just wouldn’t be fair.
