SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Blood in the Water” Edition

by Steeldad

Good Thursday to you Steelers fans.

Have you noticed something lately? Have you noticed on talk radio, TV talk shows and social media that there is a growing sense of glee in the demise of the Pittsburgh Steelers? To be blunt, there’s blood in the water and the Steeler Haters and pundits are coming out from the shadows in droves. If you’re looking for a jumping off point it was the playoff loss to Cleveland. It started picking up some steam through January and now, with Kevin Colbert’s comments regarding Ben Roethlisberger, the feeding frenzy is here. Most of it is revisionist history. “Boy, I bet the Steelers wish they weren’t held captive by their QB’s huge contract.” What were they going to do? Let him walk and roll with Landry Jones? Josh Dobbs? Mason Rudolph? Those are the types of comments you’ll see and hear and don’t forget that there will be many celebrating the end of Big Ben. You know, all those “legal experts” who claim to know that he was 100% at fault for every single thing he was accused of, they are now rolling their eyes back in their head as they attack. This is all part of being a fan. You have to take the downs with the ups. Otherwise, I’m sure there’s plenty of room on other bandwagons.

TB12 Fans

If you’ve read this column long enough you know that Terry Bradshaw was my favorite Steeler of all-time. Therefore when I get a chance to plug something like this I will! FOCO is out with these new bobbleheads of the original TB12. There are only 512 of them total and they cost $45. You can fine them at foco.com.

Tweet of the Day… The reality….

The Podcast

Tonight we record episode 209 of the Steel City Blitz Steelers Podcast presented by DEK Roofing, Inc. Scheduled to appear is Doug, a Ravens’ fan who lost a bet with his Steelers’ loving buddies. We’ll also discuss the retirement of Maurkice Pouncey, Kevin Colbert’s comments and much more on the Black and Gold.

TV Deal

As some of you know, the NFL is currently negotiating a new television deal with FOX, ESPN, NBC and CBS. Despite ratings that dropped this past season, the packages remain ridiculously expensive. The one question I and many of you have is about the NFL Sunday Ticket. What I know for sure is that Direct TV is no longer going to host it. What I don’t know is who will. Most fans are desperate to have a way to see ALL of their team’s games without having to have a specific provider. We shall see where this goes. And one last thing… Don’t be surprised if the salary cap ends up higher than expected.
