Good Wednesday to you Steelers’ fans!
On this day in 1933, Art Rooney took his winnings from the horse track and the Steelers’ franchise was born. They would be known as the Pirates until 1940 and success took a long time to come for The Chief’s organization. The Steelers are the seventh oldest franchise in the NFL and as we all know, remain one of the most popular in all of sports. In what has to be the most appropriate ‘sharing of birthdays’ of all-time, also born on this day was Hall of Fame Linebacker Jack Lambert. He turns 69 years old today. Part of the famous 1974 draft, Lambert instantly became a Steelers’ fan favorite and anchored the middle of the defense behind the Steel Curtain for four Super Bowl titles. As a Steelers’ fan, these two birthdays on the same day are indeed cause for celebration!
JuJu’s Turn
A day after James Conner surprised his mother with a new house, JuJu Smith-Schuster announced on his YouTube Channel that he had purchased a new home for his family in Southern California. I always told my mom I’d buy her a Corvette when I made the pros. She’s had to settle for a Buick. Sorry Mom.

What Bush Means
While I’m writing this, there hasn’t been an official statement but I’m guessing the NFL Owners want the players to take a paycut. The 35% seems a bit much if all they miss is the preseason so I’m guessing owners are preparing to miss a lot more than that. I’ll update as the news comes in.
UPDATE: Owners are asking players to put 35% of their salaries in escrow to help them manage projected losses due to Covid-19. Bush was not the only player to comment as the Saints’ Michael Thomas and Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes did also.

Mike Golic
ESPN announced yesterday that their flagship morning show “Golic and Wingo” was ending. This of course replaced the long running “Mike and Mike” which ended after 17 years when Mike Greenberg went to television. Every morning I sat down with a cup of coffee to collect my thoughts before heading off to work and part of that routine was watching the guys. Mike Golic provided us with insight only a former player could have. I didn’t agree with him all of the time but I always appreciated his honesty and professionalism. As corny as it sounds, you really do get to know these people. You learn about their lives and families and my own kids grew up with them too as they’d often be “forced” to endure the opening 20 minutes before I was forced to give way to cartoons. I’m getting older. Sports talk is changing and aiming for a younger audience; I understand this. Anyway, thanks Mike Golic for starting my mornings on the right foot.
