SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Berhe on Top” Edition

Good Thursday to you Steelers’ Fans!

Most of you probably don’t recognize the name “Nat Berhe” (pronounced ‘berry’) but this is an important signing for the Steelers. The former Giant is expected to sign his deal today. With the departure of Rob Golden to Kansas City, the Steelers desperately needed to fill that spot. He will likely play the upback position on punt team and that’s a vital spot where the player needs to be able to know where everyone else is supposed to be and must be versatile. Berhe will also be an upgrade as a backup safety too. As important as the signings of Jon Bostic and Morgan Burnett were, do not underestimate this one at all.

I highly encourage you to tune into the Steel City Blitz Podcast presented by 26shirts.com/Pittsburgh from last night. We were joined by Wake Forest linebacker Wendell Dunn who hopes to hear his name called later this month at the NFL Draft. He’s an outstanding young man with a great story and he’s extremely honest along the way. Check it out.

Tweet of the Day… This is more accurate than you know with regards to Facebook comments.

I grew up hating soccer. It didn’t appeal to me at all and I saw it as nothing more than “cross country with a ball.” As fate would have it, soccer is my son’s sport. He’s a goalkeeper and over the last four years I’ve learned a lot about the game to the point where I certainly respect it and understand it better than before. My son is a Chelsea fan and he’s recently told me I need to root for another team so that we have a little ‘back and forth’ between us. Thanks to those on Twitter for the suggestions. This has become way more difficult than I imagined.

The Steelers Offseason Workout Program officially begins on April 16th according to Missi Matthews’ twitter feed.

ESPN Draft Gurus Mel Kiper, Jr. and Todd McShay offered up their 4th mock draft yesterday. McShay had the Steelers’ taking the athletic Central Florida cornerback Mike Hughes which is somewhat plausible. Mike Tomlin likes guys like Hughes and if there aren’t any inside backers worth taking? It’s possible. But Kiper??? He has the Steelers taking Alabama wide receiver Calvin Ridley. While I believe the team will draft a WR, this is further proof that Kiper doesn’t do his homework. The Steelers don’t draft Bama guys especially in the first round. And there are many other needs ahead of receiver as well.

Texas Linebacker Malik Jefferson is scheduled to visit the Steelers as is Boise State’s Leighton Vander Esch.

Hope it’s warm where you are! Winter is hanging on and it sucks!

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
