SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Bad Ben Takes” Edition

by Steeldad

Good Wednesday to you Steelers’ fans.

You know and I know there is no shortage of talking heads that have no love for Steelers’ Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. These are typically former players who have ‘heard’ horrible things about Ben not being a good leader or just flat-out love to side with those who talk negatively about him. As I’ve said a million times in this very spot I recognize that Big Ben is not and has not ever been perfect but I do not believe he deserves to the constant negativity and slander that comes his way. The latest is the suggestion from Chris Canty who says that “there are people in the front office who quietly are hoping Ben retires.” I can’t definitively say that there aren’t some that feel that way but Canty’s overall explanation is ridiculous. He also goes on to claim the Steelers’ decision to extend Roethlisberger was a poor one. Wrong. At the time, what Roethlisberger agreed to was the market rate for QBs. Furthermore, if the team thought he was already “damaged goods” why would they have agreed to the extension? No one could have seen his elbow injury coming so why was the extension a bad idea? Canty joins a growing list of the guys creating false narratives about Roethlisberger. In other words, nothing has changed.

The Podcast

We are back at it tonight with the Steel City Blitz Steelers Podcast. We’ll discuss the above topic and also dive into the offensive line which may or may not see some drastic changes in the coming season.

Tweet of the Day…. Good for Gerry! LoL

JuJu World

If you’ve noticed lately, JuJu Smith-Schuster is posting A TON of social media posts about his current workout regimen. I think he’s doing this for two reasons. One, he wants to show those who questioned him after 2019 that he’s doing everything he can to prove them wrong. Secondly, I think this is very much out of the Antonio Brown playbook and it concerns me. A photo here, a video there would not be a big deal but he’s inundating us with his workouts and I really hope he isn’t headed down a path similar to Brown. My gut tells me he won’t because he seems to be more grounded and much more in control of who he is as a person than AB ever was. That doesn’t mean I don’t have concerns though.

Draft Profiles

I started breaking down film of several tight ends over the last week so our Draft Profiles will be coming very soon. If you’re a draft guru let me know. We always like to have as much draft content as possible!

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
