SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “24/7/365” Edition

Happy Wednesday Steelers’ Fans!

When I was much younger and I do mean “much,” the NFL season didn’t officially end until the Pro Bowl ended in Hawaii. Things have changed with how the season comes to a close and what’s just as amazing is how the football season never truly ends. While many football fans turn their sights to other sports already in full swing, the NFL just keeps grinding. The Combine is just weeks away and free agency is coming too. Throw in OTAs and mini-camps and quite frankly the NFL is a “24-7-365” endeavor. Arguably, there’s a five week period in the summer where things are quiet but are they really ever quiet? So for all of the negativity surrounding pro football recently it still dominates the news cycle even when it isn’t in season.

Vince Williams had EIGHT sacks in 2017. That’s pretty damn impressive for an inside backer. It speaks to his ability to blitz and get after the QB.

What a terrific scene in Pittsburgh last night. Marc-Andre Fleury returned to the home of his three Stanley Cup Championships and Ryan Shazier was given a long standing ovation. Towards the end, Shazier stood (with some help) and the place went nuts. It’s why we love sports.

Tweet of the Day… In case you missed the above.

Make no mistake about this. Robert Kraft and the Patriots absolutely enjoyed sticking it to the Colts last night when they “enticed” Josh McDaniels to stay on as Offensive Coordinator rather than take the Indy Head Coaching job. Kraft is still bitter over the Colts starting the whole “Deflategate” investigation. I assume McDaniels has been made the Pats’ “Coach in Waiting.” If that’s not the case then I don’t see him ever getting a head coaching position in the NFL after jilting the Colts at the last minute.

I’m still waiting for Art Rooney II’s comments on 2017…

The Steel City Blitz Steelers’ Podcast presented 26shirts.com/Pittsburgh records tonight. Have questions? Fire away here or on Twitter @SCBlitz. We’ll answer them on the show!

If you’re into the Winter Olympics then make sure you are checking out all of Ian’s Previews. It’s well-researched and tells you everything you need to know!

I fully expect the Steelers to take another wide receiver in the draft. Getting to be overkill? Nope. Have to draft not just for the season ahead but for seasons ahead as well.

Cris Collinsworth called the Eagles’ Jason Kelce the “most athletic center in the NFL.” This is what I hate about Collinsworth. There was no need for such a declaration. Is Kelce good? Yes, he’s really good in fact but if he’s as athletic as Maurkice Pouncey then I’m the guy at the wheel of Elon Musk’s car in outer space.

Have a super day Steeler Nation!
