SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Role of JuJu” Edition

Good Thursday to you Steelers’ Fans!

In recent weeks, there has been much speculation from fans and Steelers’ related sites about the role that rookie JuJu Smith-Schuster will be playing in 2017. Let’s keep in mind a couple of things… First, he has a lot of talented and experienced guys in front of him. So refer back to Hines Ward who had just 15 receptions his rookie season and he turned out fine. Secondly, while he’s getting a lot of time in the slot, we see him as a guy that the Steelers will want to play everywhere. If he can handle the mental side of that, he’ll be extremely valuable. Lastly, what JJSS is not, is a tight end. He is 6’1″ and 215 pounds. Yes, he’s an excellent blocker but as a receiver. Blocking from a three-point stance is a completely different endeavor so let’s just move on from that. One thing I know for sure is that Steelers’ fans will love this kid. Just give him time.

We discussed Smith-Schuster and the defensive line in depth last night on the Steel City Blitz Podcast Presented by 26shirts.com/Pittsburgh.

Andy Benoit of SI.com and MMQB.com caused a stir on Twitter when he listed a number of backup quarterbacks he’d rather have over Colin Kaepernick. Among them were Chase Daniel, Geno Smith and our own Landry Jones. While Kaepernick is dealing with the consequences of his choice to kneel during the National Anthem, I would argue that I’d rather have him than any of those three. Keep in mind he did quarterback a team to a Super Bowl. Is he the same player as he was then? No, but you can’t eliminate that experience or athleticism.

Tweet of the Day… DeAngelo Williams continues to go at Le’Veon Bell and it’s hilarious.

You’ve probably seen by now that the Steelers will host their first-ever practice at Heinz Field on August 6th. They’ve turned it into “Family Fest” which is a great idea. All the info is right here via steelers.com.

One of the most difficult things to discuss when it comes to the Steelers or the NFL is the salary cap. I’m forever thankful that Ben Anderson is part of our crew because he understands the cap far better than I ever will. I encourage any writers or bloggers to learn as much as you can about it.

I understand the Cavaliers were showing pictures of Ben Roethlisberger during Game Three of the NBA Finals last night in an effort to encourage booing of the Golden State Warriors. How did that work out?

Have an awesome Thursday Steeler Nation!
