SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Relieved Tomlin” Edition

by Steeldad

Good day Steelers’ Fans!

Being that it’s Tuesday and all that means the players are off and Steelers’ Head Coach Mike Tomlin will hold his weekly press conference at Noon ET today. You can see it on steelers.com and ROOT SPORTS.

There is no question that Tomlin will be much more relieved today as he fields questions from the beat writers. Had the Steelers lost the questions, fair or not, about his coaching of the team would have been coming. It would have been a 10th loss in the team’s last 13 games against Baltimore. Thankfully, we don’t have to worry about that. I think it will actually be funny to hear Tomlin make the 1-14 Cleveland Browns out to be the greatest team ever.

As bad as the personal foul call was on Ryan Shazier in the first half, can you imagine the uproar had Antonio Brown not scored and Eric Weddle’s facemask gone uncalled? Actually, it did go uncalled and that’s a problem. I don’t envy NFL officials but they just aren’t good right now.

I have no idea who this “Stu Gotz” guy on ESPN is but he’s awful. He filled in for Mike Greenberg Monday morning and said that Ben Roethlisberger screwed up throwing the pass to Antonio Brown. He claimed it was too big of a risk with AB not in the end zone. For the love of all things holy… Would we have been asking too much for AB to gain a yard? Would they not have had time to clock the ball again? Jesus, I hate these TV and radio guys who try to create stories out of what DIDN’T happen rather than focus on what did.

Special shout out today to good friend of the site @JoeSteelerFan. He retweeted ‘Quick Hitters’ yesterday with some high praise and I appreciate that a ton!

Tweet of the Day… Two days later and still feelin’ good.

Speaking of what “didn’t” happen… I saw people wondering if Tomlin would have gone for the score had the Steelers had one play left from the one yard line rather than kicking a tying field goal. I can tell you this; with the way the Ravens went down the field on the Steelers’ D on their last offensive drive I wouldn’t have blamed Tomlin one bit for going for the win.

DeAngelo Williams had just two offensive snaps Sunday. I anticipate Le’Veon Bell getting some serious rest against the Browns so I’m thinking Williams gets more snaps as will Fitzgerald Toussaint.

The Browns’ game really is in essence a ‘bye’ week for the Steelers. I can’t see Mike Tomlin risking any of the major players for this game. It is absolutely meaningless.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
