SCB Steelers Quick Hitters for October 14th, 2014

by Steeldad

The Steelers are on their mandatory off day today. Otherwise I’d suggest they get their butts on the practice field. Mike Tomlin’s press conferenceĀ is at Noon Eastern.

-As Steelers’ fans we are all struggling with what took place on Sunday. The truth of the matter is that there is not one single thing that is wrong right now. There are numerous problems on this team including Dick LeBeau, Todd Haley, Mike Tomlin, Kevin Colbert and anyone that wears a uniform.

-I agree completely with Dejan Kovacevic who wonders what else it’s going to take to get Ben Roethlisberger to finally blow his top. You can see the frustration building on his face. I applaud Roethlisberger for being a team-first guy but what does he have to lose by spouting the truth right now? It worked for Tom Brady two weeks ago.

-My first question to Tomlin today at his presser would be this; Who calls the plays in the red zone, Ben or Haley? I wouldn’t let him off the hook either when he answers “It’s situational.” That’s a cop-out.

-I suppose it’s hard not to, but some in the Pittsburgh media have favorites and those they dislike. It’s very apparent in times like these.

-Not sure what’s going on with Kelvin Beachum but his play has regressed and his penchant for dumb penalties is troubling.

-When the former GM in Cleveland (Joe Banner) is ripping Todd Haley on Twitter then you know there’s a problem. “Todd Haley gets 50 yards of offense on last two plays of half to pad his yardage stats. Hopes no one will notice how awful he is”

-Ouch.

-Ben Roethlisberger passed former Bengals’ QB Ken Anderson Sunday in two categories. He now has more completions against the Browns (343) than any QB in league history and he has more yardage (4,595) than any QB against the Browns.

-Heath Miller has caught a pass now in 94 straight games.

-I think the Steelers may find themselves in two really bad situations regarding their secondary. Mike Mitchell has been non-existent as a playmaker and Cortez Allen is rated literally as the worst cornerback in football by Pro Football Focus. I take PFF with a grain of salt because nothing beats the eye test but I think they’re spot on with Allen. Neither of these guys is playing to the level of his contract.

-I wonder if Brett Keisel and James Harrison are glad they came back.

-I’m putting the over/under on sacks by J.J. Watt at three. No, I’m not kidding.
