SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Mike at the Mics” Edition

Good Thursday to you Steelers’ Fans!

It’s been an incredibly busy and emotional week for our Steelers and clearly the effect has weighed heavily on guys especially Mike Mitchell who went on one of the more classic rants yesterday. It’s not a secret that I’m not a big fan of Mitchell as a free safety, but I struggle to disagree with anything he said. He is seeing the same things we as fans are. The game as we know it has changed and despite that being in the spirit of “player safety,” the NFL has botched this in horrendous fashion. Mitchell must realize however that these changes are about money. Plain and simple. The NFL is trying to cover it’s ass because it neglected the health needs of former players for decades. What I totally agree with Mitchell on is that players know what they are signing up for. A boxer knows, an MMA fighter knows, why wouldn’t a football player know what they are getting themselves into? The bottom line here is that NFL Discipline is a joke. It’s a broken process that only breaks more often than it gets fixed. Mitchell has every right to be pissed. Oh and I do disagree a bit about Matt Hasselbeck. His brother Tim is a bigger asshole.

The NFL, in its’ typical REACTIVE response, now wants to institute an immediate ejection for targeting. This would follow similar guidelines as the college game currently has. My question is how will officials be able to discern intent? As Mitchell explained, how is he supposed to adjust his angle or route in an instant to avoid an offensive player’s head while he himself is moving it?

Ryan Shazier, I’m happy to report, is back in Pittsburgh at UPMC. The team is still very guarded about his condition which I think is understandable right now. Let us continue to hope for the best for him.

I still have no idea why George Iloka, a repeat offender, got his suspension lifted while JuJu Smith-Schuster did not.

Tweet of the Day… Couldn’t resist posting this one.

Pretty good news on the injury report yesterday via steelers.com. Joe Haden (fibula), Tyler Matakevich (Shoulder) and Ryan Shazier did not participate. Mike Mitchell and Vance McDonald (ankles) were full participants.

Hat tip to the Ravens today. While I while always root against them I respect their move yesterday to pray for Ryan Shazier at the start of practice. That’s the difference between Baltimore and Cincinnati. One is a respectful rivalry. The other is a team that gets beat routinely and is even less respectful about it.

Please accept my apologies for not providing you with the podcast last night. I wish I were making this up but I’m not… Tay was supposed to join the show but could not when someone slammed into a power pole near her home knocking out her power. We are trying again tonight.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
