SCB Steelers Quick Hitters for June 26th 2015

by Steeldad

The Steelers announced this week that they will be honoring Hall of Fame-bound Jerome Bettis on October 1st when the team hosts the Ravens. It’s a fitting opponent considering that “The Bus” was part of many great games during the rivalry.

You probably saw that Ben Roethlisberger was named the 26th best player in the NFL according to NFL Network’s countdown of the top 100 players for 2015. Personally, I hate rankings like this. They are far too subjective and are nothing more than an opportunity to grab rankings. As I tweeted, I’m guessing Ben is more interested in the number three as in a third Super Bowl title.

I released my post-mini-camp 53-man roster projection at the beginning of the week and I can’t recall so many possibilities that exist. It’s quite silly frankly to try and be as accurate as possible considering so much can happen between now and when rosters cut down for the last time. One area I think some real surprises could possibly exist are in the secondary. I like rookies Doran Grant and Senquez Golson to make the roster but don’t sleep on B.W. Webb either.

Chris released his version of the Steelers’ All-Modern Era Team for both offense and defense. Check those out and comment.

Tweet of the Day… Big Ben has been on golf course a lot lately!

I also wrote yesterday that some are praising Steelers’ OC Todd Haley a bit too much in my opinion. Yes, the offensive numbers are great but until he gets a playoff win under his belt the numbers mean nothing to me and they shouldn’t to you either.

If I’ve said this once I’ll say it at least 50 more times this year but if Cortez Allen bounces back and becomes the full-time starter at corner, then the Steelers’ secondary suddenly looks a whole lot better.

The Steelers kick off the 2015 season 76 days from today in Foxboro.
