SCB Steelers Quick Hitters for June 16 2015

by Steeldad

Today begins the first day of the mandatory three-day mini-camp in the Steel City. The earlier three OTA sessions were voluntary yet saw some of the best attendance in recent years by the players. This is the last team activity until Training Camp begins on July 25th.

Good stuff from Chris today on the Steelers keeping an eye on the waiver wire.

I get so sick and tired of the negative stuff that comes from the sports’ world that it’s nice to see something positive, especially from our Steelers. Will Johnson brought tight end Matt Spaeth and receiver C.J. Goodwin with him to the hospital to visit a very special 11-year old. (h/t steelers.com)

Neal Coolong of USA Today gives us his things to look for heading into the mini-camp today.

One of the things I can’t help think about is the abundance of linebackers this team has. When you think about it, doesn’t there have to be one or two pretty good players who don’t make this roster. One of those guys was Jordan Zumwalt who I really like. He plays with an edge and attitude that this defense needs. Whether he can find a spot on the team or not is uncertain though.

I had a good Twitter conversation this week about the receivers. Consensus was that we’d really like to see C.J. Goodwin take that fifth receiver spot over Darrius Heyward-Bey. In order for that to happen, Goodwin will need to prove himself on special teams.

Tweet of the Day from Will Johnson and a very special friend…

I saw a poll recently that ranked teams top three QBs drafted since the Super Bowl Era. The Steelers top two were no-brainers with Terry Bradshaw and Ben Roethlisberger while the third eventually was Neil O’Donnell. Kordell Stewart would have been a fair selection but O’Donnell got the Steelers to a Super Bowl while Slash fell short a couple of times.

Don’t forget…. Our 1,000th like on Facebook gets a free SCB vinyl decal.

Have a great Tuesday! Go Steelers!
