SCB Steelers Quick Hitters for 3/7/16

by Steeldad

Welcome to a new week Steeler Nation but this isn’t any ordinary week in the NFL. Free agency begins this week and that means all kinds of news and speculation on who the Steelers are entertaining on the South Side.

Make sure you check out our Free Agency Primer I put together on Sunday.

The Steelers announced this morning that they have re-signed safety Robert Golden to a new deal. He is a quality reserve and good special teams player. Good, safe move in my opinion.

I chatted briefly with former Steelers’ offensive lineman Leon Searcy over Twitter this weekend. His new website, featuring clothing apparel for those that love the O-Line is scheduled to be up and running today. Check it out right here.

Peyton Manning will officially retire today. Is he an all-time great? Yup, he sure is. In my eyes he’ll be one of the best regular season quarterbacks ever. He fails the postseason test in my opinion especially when you go back and look at his games individually. He was about as average as a guy could be when the stakes where highest.

Tweet of the Day…. This is terrific.

I think the Steelers are still unsure about the future of Lawrence Timmons. I do not believe he can be a legitimate 3-down linebacker anymore and if he isn’t willing to take less money in a reduced role then what?

With the bevy of good cornerbacks in the draft, I’m becoming more and more convinced that the Steelers will at the very least have a couple targeted at 25. Keep in mind the draft dictates who is there but as of right now I’m all over a CB.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!

Timmons can be a 3 down backer. The key word being “can”. When you have a better option on 3rd down in Shazier, why do it?
