SCB Steelers Quick Hitters for 3/2/16

Hard to believe but our all-pro, two-time Super Bowl winning quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is 34 years old today. First time I saw him play in person was when his Miami Red Hawks came to Michigan Stadium to play the Wolverines. He didn’t win but he was all the talk in the stands that afternoon and with good reason.

In what cannot be shocking to anyone, Bengals’ linebacker Vontaze Burfict put the blame for his team’s loss to Pittsburgh on others and not himself. In the moments after that game I would have thought for sure Marvin Lewis was done simply because he can’t control his team. I was wrong about that but Burfict’s comments are further proof of how little control of the locker room Lewis has. Good luck with this when the team meets for OTA’s coach.

Chris is doing a terrific job on his draft prospects articles. His latest is on Duke safety Jeremy Cash.

Tweet of the Day… Charlie Suess???

Steelers’ LB James Harrison will be on the Steve Harvey Show today to discuss parenting. I’m thinking the term “participation trophies” will come up a time or two.

Steelers’ Chairman Dan Rooney will receiver the Jackie Robinson Lifetime Achievement Award on March 7th. Well deserved.

Two other prospects the Steelers spoke with at the Combine were Shaq Lawson of Clemson and Stanford tight end Austin Hooper. Neither of those should be a surprise. Lawson would fit exactly what the Steelers are looking for in terms of a guy who can get after the quarterback from a number of spots along the defensive front. Hooper of course is one of many tight ends the Steelers will talk to during the pre-draft period.

I look for some scheduled visits by some prospects to begin very soon while the Steelers’ brass also travels across the country to visit pro days at colleges and universities.

Have a great Wednesday Steeler Nation!
