SCB Steelers Quick Hitters for 12/15/15

by Steeldad

The Steelers will enjoy a much-deserved day off today.

Head Coach Mike Tomlin will hold his weekly presser at Noon Eastern today.

One call that was kind of lost in the shuffle of Sunday’s game was when Antonio Brown was flagged for a cut block on Reggie Nelson. This occurred on a first down play from the Cincinnati 26 yard line. First of all, Nelson initiated the contact and Brown simply went lower to avoid getting a harder hit. It cost the Steelers 15 yards but they eventually got a field goal out of it. Still, a horrendous call in game full of horrendous non-calls.

Tweet of the Day comes from Miami University…. This is pretty cool.

I’m very excited to tell you about something you can find only at steelers.com. If you haven’t tried out their ‘DeskSite’ then you don’t know what you’re missing. Basically, this is a personalized video platform that gives you “all things Steelers.” Some of the benefits include no buffering, customization and proactive notification. It eliminates the need to ‘search’ for content and provides it all right there for you. Here’s a brief glimpse (below) at what it would look like on your computer. Check it out right here!

The Steelers have to move on from the Bengals. They are still in a must-win situation and have a Denver team coming in that will not be happy after blowing a big lead against the Raiders. The longer they keep talking and tweeting about the Bengals the more concerned I get.

William Gay tied Rod Woodson for the most career pick-six’s in team history with his fifth on Sunday. As great a play as that was, I’d be lying if I said Gay’s celebration wasn’t over the top. It was way too long and was deserving of the 15-yard penalty.

If you haven’t seen the shot of Vontaze Burfict moonwalking away from James Harrison it’s pretty funny.

I thought Ben Roethlisberger played a very solid game on Sunday. The only ball I think he wishes he could have back was the deep interception but at the same time, it very easily could have been flagged for pass interference and turned out like a punt so no harm no foul.

The reverse to Martavis Bryant was another unnecessary call in my opinion. The Steelers were up 13 in the third quarter and had a first and ten just outside the Bengals’ 40 yard line. First, the Bengals are fast on D and it would have needed perfect execution to work. Second, why do you have your recently concussed all-pro quarterback lead blocking? Third, stick with what is working. This was a classic Todd Haley move with the goal being to show how smart he was. Rather than driving the ball down the field for a TD that would have most certainly iced the game, the Steelers settled for a field goal and just a 16-point lead.

As of right now, I think the Broncos will start Brock Osweiler. I’d actually prefer a rusty Peyton Manning but I think we can do things to beat Osweiler anyway.

Have a great day Steelers’ Nation!
