SCB Steelers Quick Hitters for 10/27/15

by Steeldad

Today is the traditional day off for Steelers’ players.

Head Coach Mike Tomlin will hold his weekly press conference at Noon Eastern.

I’m glad the Ravens lost last night – heck, I’m always glad when the Ravens lose but it doesn’t make me feel any better about a Steelers’ loss the same week. Just sayin.

Ben Roethlisberger is scheduled to start on Sunday should everything go well during practice this week. I expect it to be fine. Last week Roethlisberger encountered few problems during his on-field work.

I think Mike Tomlin, who is normally very reserved with his choice of words, made a mistake when asked after the game Sunday about how close he was to starting Big Ben. Tomlin acknowledged he was “very close” to doing just that and I think the best choice there would have been to just say nothing. I was in favor of Roethlisberger starting simply to shake the rust off. A divisional game against the Bengals isn’t the place to do that in my opinion.

Tweet of the Day… Raise your hand if you ever saw “The Jaw” shilling for a chicken wing joint.

#StandWithCam…. Make sure you get your Iron Head eye black for Sunday’s game. Wear it, take a pic and share with us @SCBlitz and @camheywardfans.

With A.J. Green and the Bengals coming in William Gay’s status appears to be all that more important. Green used to destroy Ike Taylor and if Gay can’t go the Steelers are likely going to have double-team Green or roll coverage his way at the very least.

Alejandro Villanueva was ‘OK’ on Sunday in his first career start for the Steelers. He gave up both of Tamba Hali’s sacks and the biggest reason why is that when he can’t get his long arms out, he bends and loses balance. For a man of his size balance is incredibly important. That said, he did some really good things too in both the running and pass protection areas. Still, look for Heath Miller to help out this week.

Not sure who is responsible for telling Mike Tomlin about plays that he should challenge but there was a clear fumble down by the end zone just before the Chiefs scored their first touchdown. Someone has to see that and tell Tomlin immediately.

People blaming Antonio Brown for the second interception Sunday have obviously never tried to catch a deflected pass while going full speed while someone is draped all over you. Brown did what he could to corral the ball and tipped it up in the air unfortunately. At least he was trying to make a play there.

I can’t say enough good things about what I see from Steelers’ fullback Roosevelt Nix when he is lead blocking for Le’Veon Bell. He might not always get to the right guy but he gets to someone and he brings the wood every time he does.

Have a great day Steelers Nation!
