SCB Steelers Quick Hitters for Christmas Eve 2014

by Steeldad

The Steelers will practice from 1-3pm today and will be off tomorrow for the Christmas holiday.

-Kudos to our Pro Bowl players for 2014! Ben Roethlisberger, Le’Veon Bell, Antonio Brown, Lawrence Timmons and Maurkice Pouncey.

-Injury updates today… Vince Williams tweaked his ankle, Kelvin Beachum twisted his lower back while Matt Spaeth, Ike Taylor and Troy Polamalu will be monitored through the week.

-Congratulations to Le’Veon Bell who was selected by his teammates as the Most Valuable Player on the team for 2014. It goes without saying Ben Roethlisberger or Antonio Brown would have been equally as deserving of the award but Bell’s selection was fine with me.

-Items of note from Mike Tomlin’s press conference from yesterday… Lots of praise for Bengals’ Jeremy Hill… A.J. Green always makes an impact against us, we must better… Daunting task against guys like Carlos Dunlap who can dominate a game… Geno Atkins, a force inside, quick, strong, plays with great leverage… Imagines they will focus on limiting Le’Veon Bell… Praise Reggie Nelson’s play as well at the safety position… They know us, we know them… Good execution by Chiefs on fake field goal, tips cap to them… Not going to waste his time looking for clarification on William Gay’s penalty when he already knows the answer

-Speaking of William Gay’s taunting penalty which was thrown when Gay was clearly celebrating with teammate Lawrence Timmons, here’s a nice breakdown by CBS Sports.

-Ike Taylor and Cam Thomas both made SI.com’s “All-Disappointment Team” for 2014. Ouch.

-One more touchdown catch by Martavis Bryant will give him eight on the year. He’d be just the second Steeler receiver to reach eight since Louis Lipps did it in his rookie season of 1984.

-The Steelers have won six consecutive games in the month of December.

-Arthur Moats didn’t play one snap on Sunday. Anyone else find that odd?

-Dri Archer played one. I do not find that odd.

-Contrary to an ESPN report yesterday, the Steelers cannot earn the second seed with a win Sunday night. They would lose the fourth tie-breaker with Denver which is total wins by teams you’ve beaten this season. We can thank the NFC South for this.

-Have a great Christmas Eve everyone! Hope Santa brings you all the new Steelers gear you’ve been dreaming of!
