SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “How Bad Is It Artie?” Edition

Ryan Shazier - Steelers

Good Thursday to you Steelers’ Fans!

The one thing you absolutely do NOT want to see during the week of a playoff game is an injury during practice. Yesterday two guys appeared on the injury report who had not previously sown up there. One was Stephon Tuitt who has battled a couple of different injuries this season and the other was the real shocker; Artie Burns. Mark Kaboly was the first to report that Burns suffered a “non-contact” injury during practice. Frankly, those are often the worst kind. As of this writing there is speculation about a couple of possible diagnoses but I’m not going to go any further than that right now. Rookie Cam Sutton is the next man up and will likely get the start at corner if Burns can’t go. I believe the Steelers can survive this during the coming week. Either way, let’s hope that whatever this injury is to Burns, it isn’t serious.

Ryan Shazier made his first appearance at Steelers’ practice since his injury in Cincinnati yesterday and as you might imagine it was a major energy boost to the team and certainly one for Shazier too. I will never get the image of Shazier on the ground in Cincinnati out of my mind and seeing him in a wheelchair is just as difficult. It is my sincerest hope that at the very least, Shazier walks again. I know he desperately believes he will play football again and I’m totally OK with him believing that.

Tweet of the Day… No words needed.

From everything I’ve gathered, the Steelers are more than confident with Cam Sutton should he have to play. After all, this kid played 57 snaps on D against Tom Brady and the Pats. Far and away the most snaps he’s played in his small amount of games.

According to the Post-Gazette, Ben Roethlisberger will open a restaurant near Heinz Field. Stay tuned on this.

There are all kinds of potential ‘X-factors’ for this game on Sunday and I have to think Vance McDonald is one of them. Ben Roethlisberger seems to have some solid confidence in him and he is a much bigger “after the catch” threat than is Jesse James. Something to consider should the Jags be able to limit what the Steelers do on the outside.

At the end of the day doesn’t this game come down to Blake Bortles? He’s only played one career game in temps under 30 degrees (it’s supposed to be 18 on Sunday) and he’s as inconsistent as any QB in the league with his accuracy. There is no way Keith Butler can let his unit get beaten by him.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
