SCB Steelers Quick Hitters for 9/19/16

by Steeldad

Good Morning Steelers’ Fans! We are enjoying yet another happy “morning after.”

DeAngelo Williams continues to be the best free agent signing for the Steelers since James Farrior. All he did was carry the ball 32 times (career high) for 94 yards and catch four passes including a touchdown. My gut feeling is the Steelers are getting literally everything they can out of him now before Le’Veon Bell returns in week four and I can’t say I blame them.

We’ll know more on the injury front when Mike Tomlin speaks tomorrow but right now I know Cam Heyward’s ankle is troubling him and I’m very curious about Ben Roethlisberger. He had medical attention twice yesterday despite not missing a snap. Wonder what that was about.

I’ll be watching some tape today/tonight but I’m really curious to see what the Bengals were doing against Antonio Brown and Eli Rogers. It was clear on first glance that they doubled Brown a lot keeping someone underneath of him and usually Adam Jones on top. With Rogers, who had just one reception after being a big part of the offense in week one, I fear he struggled with the physicality of the uptight defender. Like I said, I’ll know more after I watch some better angles.

Ben Roethlisberger didn’t have a great game but here are two examples of why that’s OK. First, the Steelers ran the ball well enough and two, Big Ben still found ways to get the job done with his feet. His scramble for a first down (which resulted in DWill’s TD catch) was a thing of beauty. Bottom line is that great players have poor outings. Aaron Rodgers did too last night, but the great ones find ways to win.

Tweet of the Day… Salute to your good day sir!

These were my initial postgame articles last evening. One on the resilience and another on the tight ends.

Steelers get a nice break catching the Eagles on a short week. Philly plays the Bears tonight on Monday Night Football. As my old co-worker used to say, “Monday night’s winners are next Sunday’s losers.” He was right more often than night.

Have a fantastic week Steeler Nation!
