SCB Quick Hitters: The “Morning After” Edition

by Steeldad

For the second straight Monday morning we are licking our wounds Steelers’ fans. The good news is that we have a week to heal and prepare for Baltimore who also has a bye this week.

I do not believe in moral victories. Those are for teams that aren’t used to success. If that sounds too harsh, too bad.

I think the Steelers have in identity crisis on defense and it may spell the end for Keith Butler when this season ends. There’s a long way to go and many things can change over the course of the season but it appears to me the Steelers are torn between being a 4-3 defense and a 3-4 defense. The personnel just doesn’t fit what they want it to do half the time. I don’t understand why certain guys are on the field in certain situations. Vince Williams, who I think has done a very nice job this season, shouldn’t be on the field on third down.

Here’s why the Patriots are so good offensively. Rob Gronkowski had one catch in the first half. The Pats immediately recognized what the Steelers were doing and adjusted at halftime. When they knew Rob Golden was locked on Gronk it was game over.

Landry Jones acquitted himself just fine Sunday. His worst ball came at the worst time but outside of that he was better than most expected. He threw several nice deep balls and had good accuracy on throws to the outside as well. Given a week of preparation I think he’ll be OK. Let’s just hope his services aren’t needed the rest of the season.

Based on what I’ve been told, Antonio Brown should be fine. He took a knee to the hip and landed awkwardly on it another time. Little bit of rest should do him well.

Tweet of the Day… DWill was watching The Walking Dead as well. What an intense episode last night.

Chris Boswell was three of five last night but I’m not sure I felt good about any of the kicks. I hope it was just one of those days for him.

I don’t know who told Mike Tomlin to challenge that first half catch by Rob Gronkowski but whoever it was needs to be fired. Ridiculous waste of a timeout.

Speaking of wasting timeouts, one of my long-running problems with Todd Haley is his disorganization. He is the master of wasting timeouts for a variety of reasons and those missing timeouts hurt especially when you’re trailing. I also didn’t understand the slow pace in the final minute of the game by the offense either. Made no sense to me.

Two weeks ago I wrote an article suggesting Antonio Brown was becoming a distraction. I based it on information I was given and I stand by it. The article was ripped, as I expected it would be, as ‘clickbait.’ I was also called any number of things as well which didn’t surprise me. My article came a day after Dejan Kovecevic suggested similar things on his site and then what do you know? Ron Cook came out with something quite similar two weeks later. I may be just a blogger but that doesn’t mean I don’t have access to information.

OK Steeler Nation. On to Baltimore!
