Greene the Latest Former Steeler to Enter the Hall of Fame

by Steeldad

Former Pittsburgh Steelers’ outside linebacker Kevin Greene was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame last night. While he played the bulk of his career in other cities like Los Angeles and Carolina, Greene’s three seasons in the Steel City saw him collect 35.5 of his career 160 sacks.

In 1994, Greene was named to the Pro Bowl for the second time (five altogether) and made the all-pro team for the first time (he would another in 1996).

With Greg Lloyd on the other side, Greene was the blonde, long-haired sack master who was often confused with wrestling champ Hulk Hogan but make no mistake, Greene was his own man and player. His intensity and enthusiasm for the game was unrivaled.

Greene helped the Steelers get to Super Bowl XXX where they lost to Dallas 27-17. Although he wasn’t in Pittsburgh long, he most definitely left his mark.

Along with former Steeler Tony Dungy (who enters the Hall of Fame as a Head Coach), the two become the 29th and 30th Steelers to head into the Hall of Fame. Former Steelers’ guard Alan Faneca was a finalist this year but was not selected.
