The Days are Numbered for the Steelers’ Golson

by Steeldad

It can’t be a good feeling to know time isn’t on your side. I suppose we all face that eventually but in the game of professional football the days really are numbered. For the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Senquez Golson, the pressure has to be mounting.

The former second round draft pick in 2015 is not a bust. Please don’t refer to him as that because that isn’t fair. In my book, to be a “bust” you actually have to get on the field, play poorly for an extended period of time and then you can be labeled as such. Golson cannot be placed in this category.

In three Training Camps now he has practiced less than a dozen times. He has yet to compete in a game. He has yet to compete in preseason game for that matter and to be honest, this really isn’t his fault. When he came out of Ole Miss he was durable. He was an excellent baseball player who easily could have gone that route but he chose football instead.

Some draft folks suggested that had Golson been a few inches taller he may have been a first round pick. While it’s easy to blame the Steelers for taking a guy that has hardly contributed, they knew they needed secondary help and they like athletes so why not choose Golson? We can second guess all we want to but that isn’t changing things for us, the team or for Golson himself.

With just two preseason games remaining, the days of Golson wearing the Black and Gold are few unless he can suddenly get right and get back on the field. The Steelers are well aware of what he can do when healthy but the vast majority of us are not. Perhaps this is now a situation where both sides just need a clean break from each other. It’s happened before and it will happen again.

Personally, I can’t imagine what must be going through Golson’s mind. He knows he’s capable and he knows what he can contribute to this team but his body has failed him at all the wrong times. The frustration level must be out of this world. To know you are so close yet so far away…

I think I speak for all Steelers’ fans when I say “We want him to be on the field.” It just doesn’t appear to be an option though. Football has always been a numbers game and for Golson he’s just about out of them.

I understand your article but man this guy is very good when healthy. I understand the business part of this and do agree he hasn’t been on the field but my hope is he is healthy enough to play in the last 2 games, show some potential and stay on the team. That’s my hope and his I am guessing. But I think if the Steelers cut him he will be playing somewhere next year and hopefully healthy. This dude can be great DB.
