Brown, Roethlisberger the Only Steelers’ Pro Bowlers?

by Steeldad

Roethlisberger and BrownThe Pittsburgh Steelers’ 2013 season has had very little to celebrate but there could, and should, be a couple of guys heading for the Hawaiian Islands.

Regardless of what we as fans think of the Pro Bowl, it’s an honor for players to be named to one of the two teams.

It’s also a nice honor to get a free trip to Hawaii in January as well.

Right now, I believe Antonio Brown is a shoo-in to go while I also think Ben Roethlisberger has made a very strong case to go as well.

Brown doesn’t need my help in getting to Hawaii but I’ll put his stats down nonetheless. Brown became the just the second Steeler to reach 90 receptions in a season when he matched Hines Ward last week. His 1,241 receiving yards and seven touchdowns will certainly help his cause as will his return yards. I don’t think there’s any way Brown doesn’t get to the Pro Bowl.

Ben Roethlisberger’s Pro Bowl chances took a step back during the first four games of the season but since then, he has turned it on big time and will warrant serious consideration. With 3,724 passing yards Roethlisberger ranks third in the AFC and fifth in the NFL. His 24 touchdown passes rank him fourth in the AFC while his quarterback rating of 94.1 is third in the AFC and is six points higher than Tom Brady.

Obviously Peyton Manning will get the nod as the AFC starter, but I expect Roethlisberger to join Philip Rivers in Hawaii.

Cases could be made for linebacker Lawrence Timmons who leads the team in tackles by a significant margin. Don’t be surprised if Troy Polamalu gets some attention as well. He’s been able to stay healthy and has had some impact this year. Plus, the average fan loves him and they’ll vote for him.

Overall, look for Brown and Roethlisberger to be wearing hula skirts in Hawaii. OK, maybe not hula skirts…

Chances are good you’re right. I think the importance of Ben to this team has been made obvious this year and his stats prove it. He’ll probably lose out to Brady or Smith because of team success.
