WPIAL Week 5 Results

The fifth week of the WPIAL regular season brings us past the midpoint of the year. As we enter the home stretch, playoff races are heating up and nearly every conference game has playoff implications. There were a number of matchups this week that will directly impact the postseason. Here’s a look at tonight’s results with some game notes included. Don’t forget to check out the WPIAL Standings Page which will be updated with all of the results at the end of the weekend.

WPIAL Class 6A Quad County Conference

Pine-Richland 42, Central Catholic 21
Pine-Richland got out to a 35-7 lead after just one quarter. Rams RB Luke Meckler scored 4 touchdowns to put Pine-Richland on a crash course with rival North Allegheny for the conference title.

Mt. Lebanon 37, Hempfield 6
The Blue Devils stop a 2-game losing skid and move to 3-2 in conference play to keep themselves in playoff position.

Norwin 42, Butler 0
The Knights get back to .500 with a big win over Butler.

North Allegheny 10, Seneca Valley 6
In a defensive struggle, the Tigers prevailed and became the first team to clinch a WPIAL playoff berth this season.

WPIAL 6A vs 5A Non-Conference

Canon-McMillan 35, Peters Twp 26
The bordering communities got to face off in a non-conference rivalry game. Canon-Mac prevailed by stopping a game-tying two point conversion then tacking on another touchdown in the closing moments.

WPIAL Class 5A Allegheny Eight Conference

Bethel Park 38, Moon 14
Bethel Park still has a chance at the Conference title if they can win out.

Baldwin 21, Chartiers Valley 14
Baldwin gets their 4th win of the season and moves to 2-2 in conference play, staying right in the thick of the playoff race.

West Allegheny 14, Woodland Hills 13
West Allegheny stopped a 2-point conversion then recovered an onsides kick attempt to hold on to a 1-point victory and stay on top of the conference. Woodland Hills falls to 1-5 with a number of close losses this season.

WPIAL Class 5A Big East Conference

Franklin Regional 65, Albert Gallatin 0
Adam Rudzinski threw 3 TD passes and Zach Gordon ran for 3 scores as the Panthers stay undefeated.

McKeesport 45, Latrobe 14

Penn-Trafford 45, Plum 3
Penn-Trafford got out to a 31-0 halftime lead and cruised to victory.

WPIAL Class 5A Northern Conference

Penn Hills 46, Armstrong 20
The Indians undefeated season continues as Hollis Mathis adds 4 more TD passes to his total.

Hampton 34, Kiski Area 31
Hampton kicked a field goal as time expired to get their first conference win of the season and further complicates the 5A playoff picture.

Mars 21, Shaler 12
Shaler held a 12-7 lead at halftime but Mars battled back to shut out the Titans in the second half and pull out a 9-point win.

WPIAL Class 5A Non-Conference

Gateway 35, North Hills 0
The Gators stay undefeated while North Hills has now dropped two in a row.

Upper St Clair 33, Fox Chapel 7
The Panthers put together a dominant defensive performance to get ready for the South Hills Showdown against Mt. Lebanon next week.

WPIAL 5A vs 4A Non-Conference

Thomas Jefferson 56, Connellsville 14
Thomas Jefferson stays undefeated with a non-conference win over Connellsville.

WPIAL Class 4A Big Eight Conference

Belle Vernon 48, Greensburg Salem 14
Belle Vernon continues to look like one of the top teams in 4A after another convincing win. Greensburg Salem has wins over Trinity and Laurel Highlands, which situates them well in the playoff race.

Indiana 27, Trinity 21
Indiana gets their second win of the season and keeps themselves in the playoff race with an overtime win over Trinity.

West Mifflin 48, Laurel Highlands 13
The Titans stay undefeated in conference play with a big win over Laurel Highlands.

WPIAL Class 4A Northwest Eight Conference

South Fayette 21, Blackhawk 0
After a defensive struggle had the game tied 0-0 into the third quarter, South Fayette pulled away to take control of the Northwest Eight Conference.

Highlands 56 Ambridge 18
The Rams got their first win of the season last week by beating Beaver and now are right back in the middle of the playoff race.

Montour 35, Knoch 33
No team has separated themselves in the middle of the pack in the Northwest Eight Conference. Montour gets their first win of the season in a back-and-forth shootout with Knoch to further muddy the waters.

WPIAL Class 4A Non-Conference

Beaver 49, Ringgold 7

New Castle 14, South Park 6

WPIAL Class 3A Big East Conference

Deer Lakes 34, Burrell 21
Aris Hasley threw 2 TD passes and ran for another score to lead the Lancers to their third win of the season.

Elizabeth Forward 25, Derry 22
The Warriors got out to a 25-7 halftime lead then held on against a furious comeback from the Trojans. Elizabeth Forward now sits alone atop the Big East Conference.

North Catholic 49, Mt Pleasant 7
A week after getting shut out by Derry, North Catholic hung 49 on Mt. Pleasant in the first half.

Freeport 20, Yough 0
After an 0-3 start, two wins in a row has put Freeport right back in the thick of the playoff race.

WPIAL Class 3A Tri-County West Conference

Aliquippa 65, Hopewell 0
The top defensive team in the WPIAL pitches another shutout and breaks the 60-mark for the 2nd time in the last 3 games.

Quaker Valley 50, Keystone Oaks 43
The Game of the Night in the WPIAL. These teams battled back and forth all evening. There were 6 lead changes in the first half before the teams took a 22-22 tie into halftime. The teams continued to trade touchdowns and were tied at 36 to start the 4th quarter. Quaker Valley would take a 43-36 lead but KO tied the game with just 38 seconds left. In overtime, Quaker Valley scored then stopped Keystone Oaks to preserve the victory.

Central Valley 41, Waynesburg 14
After losing their first 4 games, Central Valley has now won two in a row and is sneaking back into the playoff race.

WPIAL Class 3A Non-Conference

Beaver Falls 68, Uniontown 6
Beaver Falls ran past Uniontown, who holds the longest current losing streak in the WPIAL.

WPIAL Class 2A Allegheny Conference

Shady Side Academy 63, Apollo-Ridge 21

Avonworth 35, Summit Academy 8
12:30pm on Saturday

WPIAL Class 2A Interstate Conference

Beth-Center 28, Charleroi 27
The 2A Game of the Week lived up to the hype. Beth-Center built a 28-15 lead halfway through the third quarter. Charleroi would find the end zone two more times, but missed the game-tying extra point with 5 minutes left. Charleroi had one more chance after blocking a punt with a minute and a half to go, but got stopped on 4 times at the edge of the red zone.

McGuffey 56, Southmoreland 28
The Highlanders stay undefeated and with Charleroi’s loss are now in sole possession of first place in the Interstate Conference.

Washington 42, Frazier 0
The defending 2A Champions are right back in the thick of the race for the conference title with Charleroi’s loss tonight.

WPIAL Class 2A Midwestern Conference

New Brighton 42, Neshannock 21
The Lions young team is starting to come together. They got out to an early lead and hung on to beat Neshannock.

Mohawk 56, Shenango 0
Mohawk stays on top of the Midwestern Conference standings with a big win over Shenango.

Ellwood City 27, Western Beaver 21
Ellwood City gets their first win of the season in overtime against Western Beaver.

WPIAL Class 2A Three Rivers Conference

 Burgettstown 24, Serra Catholic 0
The Blue Devils strong defense flexes their muscles once again and shuts out Serra Catholic.

Seton LaSalle 36, Fort Cherry 0
Seton LaSalle gets a big win in conference play to keep themselves in the playoff race.

Brentwood 26, South Side Beaver 7
The Rams have now dropped two in a row after winning 4 straight to start the season.

WPIAL Class 2A Non-Conference

Steel Valley 40, South Allegheny 3
South Allegheny played the Ironmen tight last season but could not slow down Steel Valley’s running game tonight.

Riverside 42, Carlynton 7
The Panthers move to 4-1 on the season while Carlynton falls to 1-5.

Freedom 44, Valley 13
Jake Pail scored two rushing and one receiving touchdown as the Bulldogs blew past Valley.

East Allegheny 50, Carmichaels 8
The move up to 2A has not treated the Mighty Mikes well as they remain winless on the season.

2A vs 1A Non-Conference

Jeannette 44, Brownsville 0
The defending 1A Champions remain undefeated while Brownsville stays winless on the season.

WPIAL Class 1A Big Seven Conference

Sto-Rox 54, Northgate 0

Rochester 43, Cornell 14
Another big performance from Noah Whiteleather as he goes over 1000 yards for the season and gets a big win for the Rams in the playoff race.

OLSH 55, Laurel 13

Union 28, Bishop Canevin 0
7pm on Saturday

WPIAL Class 1A Eastern Conference

GCC 47, Springdale 0
The Dynamos struggles continue as they remain winless in 2018.

Clairton 36, Leechburg 0
Another monster performance from the Bears defense who scored once again on a pick-six. Brandon Parsons threw 3 TD passes to keep Clairton undefeated and set up a showdown with Imani Christian next week.

Monessen 44, Bentworth 21
Monessen gets a key victory in the TCS playoff race.

California 54, Jefferson-Morgan 0

Chartiers-Houston 48, Mapletown 0
