Around the time former Pittsburgh Steelers’ wide receiver Mike Wallace was ready to sign his free agent deal with Miami, I wrote one final article about him. I also swore it was my final word on the guy but I just can’t let go.
Apparently, neither can Mike.
Since signing his big money deal with the Dolphins, Wallace has been unable to leave his past behind him. While I’ll be the last person to fault Mike Wallace for taking the huge payday he would have never gotten from the Steelers, it would be a bit refreshing if he could move on from his former team at the same time.
For reasons known only to Wallace, he continues to validate exactly why the Steelers really weren’t that interested in re-signing him. He has compared his second year quarterback Ryan Tannehill to his former QB and future Hall of Famer Ben Roethlisberger and went so far as to say he’ll be just as good if not better.
Ya know what Mike? You might be right. I doubt it, but you could be. Anything is possible after all no matter how unlikely.
Wallace also went on to say this week that “In Pittsburgh, I knew I was [in] a six-month lease every time, a furnished apartment,” Wallace said last week. “I’d just bring my bag and be ready to go. Down here, I have to buy me a house, get settled in.”

I understand that you are upset and bothered at what Wallace had to say about Pittsburg, but is that any reason to trash another franchise? You don’t like his comments – fine – that doesn’t bother me. But when you make disparaging comments like “there isn’t nearly the discipline there is in Pittsburg”. I think you making that comment is disrespectful. I do believe that Coach Philbin is making changes that have been needed in that organization for some time now. So please, if you have a problem with the play, deal with the player.
Thanks for reading Shawn and thank you for your service… You’re absolutely correct. I should not have disparaged the Dolphins in my comments, but I think you’d agree that organization has been lacking many things besides just discipline over the last 20 years or so. I have family that are season ticket holders down there and they very excited about Philbin. The AFC is always more fun when the Fins are competitve. As for Wallace, he is a tremendous talent, but he will disappoint you in several ways. I feel ultimately the Steelers are better without him.
Get over it, steeldad. Tanny can be as good as Ben, the rapist, and has been compared to him already — except Tanny won’t be raping women because he has a hottie for a wife. Don’t trash a team on the rise because your team is on the decline.
I certainly can’t compete with your overwhelming logic as to why Tannehill will be better than Roethlisberger. The fact you mentioned his wife is hot is good for at least three Super Bowl wins as far as I can tell.
Oh and if the Steelers are on the decline then what do you call Miami since the 1980s?
