Tomlin says Concussion, Big Ben says Otherwise

Mike Tomlin must find a way to finish strong if the Steelers want to keep their wildcard spotIt has not been pretty these past couple days for Coach Mike Tomlin as he struggles with effective decision making. First was that awful fake field goal attempt against Seattle, which ended with an interception and 7 points. Then, it was kicking a field goal with less than 2 minutes in the fourth quarter and down by 5.

Although that last call is very debatable, Tomlin has made colossal mistake after colossal mistake.

He did that crap again when during his much awaited press conference, he stated that Ben Roethlisberger had sustained a concussion and will be taken under NFL concussion protocol.

However, just an hour earlier, Big Ben proclaimed that he didn’t have a concussion and that he would be good to practice on Wednesday.

Somebody is lying, and I think we all have an accurate idea who it is.

Ben said that the trainers told him “Ben, it’s fine. You’re ready to practice.”

Why is there a lack of communication between Head Coach and Quarterback? Shouldn’t Tomlin have met with trainers beforehand and gotten the situation sorted out before the conference?

“When I told the doctors, Dr. Maroon and the training staff said I didn’t have a concussion” Ben said. “That’s why I was so confused yesterday when Coach Tomlin said I had one. They need to get together and tell their players what’s going on because I was just relaying what the doctors told me.”

Again, what’s up with this lack of communication? Are the Steelers really just being overly cautious with Big Ben? What’s really going on behind the curtain? It’s maddening to think that coaches can get away with flat out lies like that.

Roethlisberger was pissed, and rightfully so. Not only was this an embarrassment to both men, but also to the entire Steelers organization.

They pride themselves on stability and tradition, but this little problem is like a dent to the bumper.

As Ben and the rest of his teammates prepare themselves for the showdown against the Indianapolis Colts, one can only hope this problem will eventually just fade away into the background.

With major playoff chances on the line, I know they have enough problems on their minds as it is.

Nevertheless, something still smells fishy.

Carlos, when Ben made those comments about being cleared to practice, he had not been cleared by the doctors. He had been told by the trainers that “it all looked good”.
Tomlin reiterated in his presser that Ben had not been cleared, was still in the protocol and in effect ‘had a concussion”, per the standards set in place by the league.

Very true, however there still should’ve been some type of communication to prevent this type of thing from happening
