Stopping Browns Backfield will be Key on Sunday

The Cleveland Browns successfully pulled off one of the most impressive comebacks in NFL history last weekend, which for the Browns is pretty rare.

What’s even more rare is the Browns did it while still running the ball.

The Steelers should be plenty familiar with that though. In week 1 the Browns faced a 27-3 deficit at the half and nearly rode rookie Terrence West and Isiah Crowell to an incredible comeback win.

The Browns lost lead runner Ben Tate in the first half of that game, but he returned against the Titans and looked to be 100% on that day; rushing for 123 yards.

The Steelers last two wins came against the Panthers and Jaguars who rank 28th and 30th in rushing. It’s not a coincidence that the teams that struggle to run the ball have also struggled to score points on the Steelers defense.

This is going to be a tough game for the Steelers. The Brown saw what works against them just a few weeks ago, and you can bet they plan to pound the rock.

One thing that I think is a positive, is when I went back and watched the game, the Steelers weren’t getting out-coached in that game (which I think they have been plenty this year).

On nearly every big run the Browns had in week 1, someone had a hand on the ball carrier in the backfield or within a couple yards of the line of scrimmage.

It’s pretty simple, do what you did before and execute the fundamental stuff you’ve been taught since peewee and you’ll win the game.
