If you wonder why fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers get frustrated when they see rookies perform for other teams while theirs do little then I give you Monday night.
While Le’Veon Bell will continue to be an unproven commodity, three other rookies saw significant time for the Steelers last night.
First-round pick Jarvis Jones started and inside backer Vince Williams and safety Shamarko Thomas both saw significant time. Wide receiver Markus Wheaton was again little used and why is beyond me.
Then there are the Bengals who had two rookies play significant roles in the team’s 20-10 win over the Steelers.
Running back Giovanni Bernard scored both Bengals’ touchdowns while rookie tight end Tyler Eifert made a splash play with a 61 yard reception that led to Bernard’s first score.
Granted, this is but one game and the jury is still out on Bell, but in terms of rookies making an impact last night, the Steelers’ rookies were limited while the Bengals’ flourished.
