Steelers Offered Worilds $12 Million in Guaranteed Money

by Steeldad

Jason Worilds was allegedly seeking as much as $50 million from several teams according to a source familiar with the situation. This came after the Steelers offered him as much as $12 million in guaranteed money before telling the outside linebacker to go try the market.

The Steelers offer was going to be around four years but a total contract value was not given.

My understanding of the situation is that Worilds and his agent were looking for as much as $18-20 million in guaranteed money. The three teams believed to have passed on his proposal were the New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles and Tennessee Titans.

It became apparent today that Worilds walked away from the game at the age of 27 because of a higher calling. It’s fair to ask what Worilds would have done had one of those teams accepted his demands.

As late as yesterday Worilds’ agent was still trying to swing deals with teams and allegedly those included the Steelers. This is why it’s fair to question just how badly Jason Worilds wanted to keep playing football.

None of us can tell Worilds or any other player how to live their lives. If Worilds was ready to walk away then that’s his choice.

The lack of depth at the outside linebacker position is obviously what prompted the Steelers to at least make him an offer but now it looks like both Worilds and the Steelers are better of without each other.

Jason Worilds, is worth no more than 3 mil. a year if that. I can go on and on but why? Let’s move on please.
