Steel City Blitz Quick Hitters for August 1, 2014

by Steeldad

Dri Archer has been a big hit on the field and with the fans.

As usual, here is your official training camp guide from steelers.com.

-Keep in mind, tonight is the annual night practice at Latrobe’s Memorial Stadium at 7pm. This is a great opportunity to see the Steelers up close and get some autographs as well. Get a spot along the fence early if you’re an autograph hound.

-Here are some of the observations of one of the best guys on the scene in Latrobe, @ChrisG_BR… Starting five O-Linemen are always the first to the golf cart at the end of practice…Kay gets rid of the ball much quicker than Jones does, but has happy feet the instant he feels pressure… First team offense was very methodical with the no-huddle. Nothing spectacular but made every play count… Defense very good against the outside run. Both Archer and Poole had no chance to get the corner…Spaeth, Zumwalt and Palmer not practicing.

-The Trib-Review’s Mark Kaboly continues to put out great information from camp. Follow him on Twitter @MarkKaboly_trib. Here are some of his takes from today… Rookie free agent tight end Eric Waters hurt his back today… Adams continued to struggle with pass protection as he was beaten by rookie Howard Jones… Rookie defensive lineman Josh Mauro looked real strong and fast during pass blocking drills… Safety Jordan Dangerfield continues to impress.

-Former Steeler linebacker Clark Haggans was at practice yesterday.

-Count Dri Archer as a fan favorite as he signed autographs and took a lot of ‘selfies’ with fans yesterday.

-By the end of practice yesterday, the only tight ends left on the field were Heath Miller, a fullback and a long snapper.

-Le’Veon Bell was back in pads yesterday.

-NFL officials were on hand yesterday and will be again tonight for the scrimmage. Having them around is important for knowing new rules and procedures.

-Here is ESPN’s Scott Brown’s Day Five Report on the Steelers.

-I have to believe that if Jordan Dangerfield keeps up his play then it will be very hard to let him walk. He had more big hits today and an interception.

-As for Mike Adams, I realize it’s just the first week of practice but he’s getting beat like a rented mule. How much longer can the organization hang on to him? At some point, Kevin Colbert just has to admit it was a poor draft pick.

-With baseball’s trade deadline coming and going, here is one of my favorite baseball movie scenes. RIP Leslie

Sounds like Jordan Dangerfield IS getting some respect.

Let it be said that it took less than a week for the first Rodney blast!
