What You Need to Know: Mike Tomlin is now 10-1 home-opening games… Antonio Brown has caught at least one pass in 110 consecutive games… Big Ben had his 76th game with a passer rating over 100. The team is 68-8 in such games… This is the eighth time the two teams will meet in the month of September. The Bears lead 4-3 in such games…

What’s at Stake: The Steelers can move to 3-0 which will likely keep pace with Baltimore who plays Jacksonville in London. The Ravens have chosen to take their bye week later rather than after the game overseas which is usually the case. This would set up a matchup of unbeaten teams for week four in Baltimore. As for the Bears, it’s a fight for survival in what is already shaping up to be a difficult NFC North.

All-Time Series: Bears lead the all-time series 18-7-1 and hold an 11-1 advantage over Pittsburgh at home.

Three Things We Need to See for a Steelers’ Victory:

K.I.S.T. Keep It Simple Todd. We already know what the Steelers are capable of in terms of their passing offense. There’s Ben and Brown. Bell and Bryant. Rogers and James and even more. The Bears rank 26th in the NFL in pass defense after two games so why not try to exploit that? Haley will no doubt do just the opposite and try to go run-heavy to get Bell going but that’s not necessary. Throw the ball to set up the run. Use the big-time players in this offense to build an early lead and then let the running game take over and kill clock.

Let Loose the Dogs of War! The Steelers possess one of the more athletic defenses in the NFL and through the first two games they are sacking the QB and pressuring the QB at a high rate. This week, they get the tall but statuesque Mike Glennon. Keith Butler’s charges need to monitor the running of rookie Tarik Cohen who is a “human pinball” if you will and if they do that they will be able to pin their ears back and attack Glennon. Missed tackles this week, especially on Cohen will cause headaches of the migraine variety for Pittsburgh. They must be disciplined but at the same time must continue their aggressive ways which have served them well so far.

Stay Focused. Ya it sounds easy enough doesn’t it? They only play 16 games a year so how hard can it be to remain focused 16 days out of a year? This has been a knock on Mike Tomlin teams in the past; they can’t seem to be focused on the “lesser” teams. With the Ravens hosting them next week, the Steelers can’t afford to look past Chicago. It’s easy to see why they would but great teams don’t fall into such traps. If you start seeing a lot of early mental errors and penalty flags from the Black and Gold then I think being “unfocused” will be easily applied. Got the task at hand done first then set sight to the Ravens.
