SCB Steelers Wrap-Up: Ravens Beat Steelers 26-6

by Steeldad

The Steelers went into Baltimore with everything going for them and then nothing went right period in the Ravens’ 26-6 win last night.

-The mistakes that this Steelers team has made now in two weeks are inexcusable. Penalties and a total lack of discipline are killing this team and that falls directly on Head Coach Mike Tomlin.

-The Ravens ran the ball 36 times for 157 yards including 96 yards by Bernard Pierce.

-When the Steelers blitzed with five or more men last night Joe Flacco torched them for over nine yards per reception and two touchdowns. He was 11 of 14 in such situations.

-Mike Munchak may be a Hall of Fame player and a respected offensive line coach but this group has regressed from last season and I don’t care what anyone tells me. This doesn’t mean that this group can’t come together as they did in the second half of last year but right now they are being bullied at the line of scrimmage in pass protection.

-A lot of Steelers’ fans are upset with the officials this morning and rightfully so. Antonio Brown was clearly a defenseless receiver when he was nearly concussed in the first half but there was no flag. Steelers’ safeties Mike Mitchell and Troy Polamalu were both flagged on very similar plays. Make no mistake, the officiating was bad but it was not the reason the Steelers lost.

-Is this offense going to be a no-huddle offense or not? Stop with the multiple personalities. This team runs better in the no-huddle so go with it!

-Ryan Shazier is a terrific young player but he is a work in progress when it comes to covering tight ends.

-Much like the Browns did, the Ravens whipped the Steelers with play-action. How you can leave tight ends that open inside the ten yard line is beyond me.

-Ben Roethlisberger wasn’t sharp last night and I don’t know if that hit on the first series had something to do with it or not but he missed on several throws that he normally makes. For the record, I think Courtney Upshaw led with his crown but it shouldn’t have been called a penalty.

-The Steelers have been outscored 50-9 in the last six quarters.

-Perhaps the biggest disappointment last night as the fact the Ravens basically had two starters out of the secondary and the Steelers could do little to take advantage of it.

I have been a Yellow and Black fan for more than four decades. I have seen some terrific and horrific teams. I fail to see the logic in hiring a offensive coordinator who was the head coach of one of the worst teams in the league. Todd Haley has made the Steelers into a mediocre team. Can’t score touchdowns, can’t complete long passes, can’t hold onto the football. How long does it take for us to realize he is a poor fit. The reason Ben and he could not get along was Ben knew how to win and Haley didn’t. Tomlin is a winning coach until Haley came on board. We need an offensive coordinator so much it hurts!

Join the club Earl! While I like some of the principles of Haley’s offense, something just isn’t right and hasn’t been since he got there. I too believe his presence and LeBeau’s to an extent has undermined Tomlin.
