SCB Steelers Wrap-Up; Steelers Whipped by Browns 31-10

by Steeldad

This team has issues. They go beyond Todd Haley and Dick LeBeau although each bear a great deal of the responsibility for this abortion that is the Pittsburgh Steelers. Mike Tomlin is also responsible as is General Manager Kevin Colbert and so is Art Rooney II. We can blame the Steelers’ players for their lack of execution but that is ultimately the responsibility of the coaches.

-The offense has no identity. Do they want to run it? Do they want to pass it? Every week’s is a different form of futility.

-Steelers recovered a Browns’ fumble down 28 points with eleven minutes to go and Tunch Ilkin says, “Maybe that’s what this team needs to get going!” Really Tunch?

-Todd Haley continues to prove he has no clue how to use Dri Archer. He got him the ball out of the backfield where only once did he come away with any significant yardage. He was not used at all in the passing game.

-Speaking of Archer, he is not the threat the Steelers thought he’d be when returning kickoffs. His poor choices resulted in poor field position several times today.

-Ben Roethlisberger and his receivers, namely Lance Moore and Markus Wheaton, looked off all day. Both guys had a coupe of drops and their timing was poor as well. Moore at least got into the end zone in garbage time.

-Has anyone seen the no-huddle offense?

-If I’m playing the Steelers I’m turning to the zone read immediately for my offensive gameplan.

-After six games the Steelers are now in last place in the AFC North. The Steelers cannot finish any better than 4-2 in the division. They stand at 1-2 right now and have two games with Cincinnati and one at home with Baltimore.

-Browns’ fans chanting “Bri-an Hoy-er!” Wonder how Johnny Manziel feels about that?

-Roethlisberger finished 21/42 for 228 yards with one TD and one pick. Antonio Brown caught seven balls for 118 yards. This was Roethlsberger’s second career loss to Cleveland.

-The Steelers have surrendered over 300 yards rushing to Cleveland in two games this year.

-Tomlin postgame presser: “we’ve gotta play better…” Keisel, Mitchell knee sprains, McLendon shoulder sprain… More red zone issues… “points are not reflective of our moving the ball…”

-Tomlin spoke about getting back to work as he usually does but whatever work they are doing clearly isn’t working. It’s time to change the paradigm Mike.

What more can be done? If you compare Arians to Haley it’s very obvious there is something wrong. Arians was OC from 2007-11 and in that 5 year period here is what he did: 3 AFC North Crowns,2 Wildcard appearance’s,2 AFC Title’s and a Superbowl win and with Haley you have a record of 19-19. Now I ask you why does ART II continue to be so damn stubborn when it comes to the OC spot?

As i have tried to explain to you in earlier post ,’he is an idiot” point blank, He would not be here if it weren’t for his daddy. Now we have to watch his bull crap!!!! Enjoy if you will ,we will win some games but not enough to mean anything. I could go on and on but dam ain’t it obvious by now.

anyone who follows our beloved Steelers knows “We” don’t sign big name expensive FA’s. Steelers build thru the draft & sign fringe FA’s & every now & then get lucky & sign a FA that really makes a difference. The last REAL FA’s signings that were good was Ryan Clark & James Farrior. Kevin Colbert is GM & has been sense 2000 meaning this is his 15th season. His drafts have been awful with reaches & busts which has forced him to overpay to keep some of those players to show, “Look i’m keeping our own players” & this past offseason he desperately tried to plug holes in this roster by signing S Mitchell DL Thomas among others. He’s failed miserably. the NFL & pro sports in general are a “What have you done LATELY” business & lately i.e. last 4 + yrs he has FAILED Kevin Colbert can NOT be allowed to oversee another offseason let alone another draft!

Why is it that everyone thinks Haley was hired because of his Daddy. He was brought in by ART II not Tomlin to quote “Control Ben”. ART still believes it’s a run first league, Could be anymore jacka** than he already is? Okay yeah Ben got hurt a bit while under Arians but read the results. They won more than they lost and got to Superbowls 43 and 45 with what I would call a mediocre O-Line and run game but it was the pass that carried them. Tomlin had no say in who would the OC would be. If it were up to Ben former offensive assistant Kirby Wilson or Randy Fichtner would manning the OC spot and you best better believe that’s what Ben wanted but to ART II his tired old a** is stuck in 1974 and not 2014. You all saw the Ravens-Bucs game. Look at what Flacco did to them. He THREW 5 TD’S IN THE 1ST HALF. There’s an old saying that you put the ball in the hands of your best player well guess what that’s the 2 time Superbowl winning QB Ben Roethlisberger that is your best player. Now lets look at former WR Sanders: I firmly believe now that he was dropping passes on purpose cause he was playing 2nd fiddle to guys like Ward, Brown and Cotchery. Now that he is the No.2 Target for Peyton he is catching the ball a lot which is disturbing to me and to any other Steeler fan that sees that. I said before the draft “Draft kelvin Benjamin” Here is a 6’5 WR who catch the ball in the redzone. Yet all of you keep disagreeing with me for a CB. Look at the CB’s drafted since Tomlin came to the Steelers in 07. Other than guys like Revis, Sherman and Peterson who is a good CB. Look at guys like Kirkpatrick and Kyle Wilson and even Mo Claiborne. all 3 of them high picks in the draft and what exactly have they done? I like Shazier but the guy I wanted was Benjamin. Now I dare all you to try and Defend Wheaton and dare you to tell me he is a better option than Benjamin at this point.

There’s no question that Haley was brought in to “protect Ben” and to “tweak Ben’s game” but we cannot dismiss the nepotism (liberal use of the word here). Haley’s father was well-respected around the organization and there’s no way that we can just wave away the fact that Todd Haley was out of job and needed somewhere to land.

It’s not a secret guys; Haley was not Mike Tomlin’s choice. That said, this team is a mess and it’s not just Haley that is a problem.

If that was the case why did it take so long for him till 2013 to get picked for the OC spot in Pittsburgh? There is nothing Tomlin can do. If he disagrees with the owners choice of OC he would be fired and you guys know that. I know Ben has complete knowledge of the playbook but he is not allowed I think to set the gameplan in a way that gets the offense going. There have been teams that would script like the first 15 plays on offense and to be honest why can’t the Steelers do that? I know you guys like Wheaton but to me he should be in the slot and nowhere else. I look at Justin Brown and I see a No.4 or 5 WR. You all felt that the Steelers should forgo Benjamin and stick with Wheaton as the No.2 WR, do you guys still feel that way or has it changed?
