SCB Steelers Training Camp Tidbits Day Seven

by Steeldad

Welcome to the new Steel City Blitz Steelers Training Camp Tidbits presented by Taps N’At! This is a brand new feature this year and every single day from now until the end of Camp you’ll see tidbits right here. Our goal is simple; provide you with everything we are seeing, hearing and learning from St. Vincent College in Latrobe.

If you’re going….

Steelers Practice for Wednesday: 255pm ET

Latrobe Weather for Wedneday: 78 degrees with Thunderstorms possible, very humid. (If you’re going to camp pay close attention to steelers.com as the team will often move indoors due to inclement weather.)

The Steelers had the day off today which was well-deserved. Here’s the latest on the injury front. Ramon Foster continues to be the story there. He’s out 3-4 weeks and hopefully nothing more. Everything else is pretty much day-to-day for guys like T.J. Watt, Morgan Burnett and Artie Burns.

The Steelers’ famous “Seven Shots” is revealing one of two things right now. Either the offense is out of sync or the defense is ahead of schedule. Of course it could also be a combination of the two as well. Seven Shots is in essence seven straight attempts for the offense to score a two-point conversion. So far through four different installments of the drill, the defense is unbeaten! What is true is that usually the defense is further along this early in Camp than is the offense but this type of streak is unusual especially with the talent on offense.

You’ll forgive me if I’m not buying the Justin Hunter hype. Just like last year, Hunter is putting on some awesome performances at Camp. That was his M.O. in Tennessee but when it came to game-time? Not so much. We saw this same type of fanfare in 2017 and it has ramped up already in Camp. Show me when it counts man!

Not a good two-play run for Nat Berhe yesterday. On the first play he took a poor angle from his safety spot and was beaten by James Conner on a very slick 55-yard TD run. The very next play the Steelers turned to some trickeration… Conner took the handoff from Ben Roethlisberger and then flicked it back to him. Big Ben then caught Berhe in no man’s land hitting Antonio Brown for the score. Good thing Berhe is expected to be on Special Teams for the most part in 2018!

Did you hear the roars when Ben Roethlisberger actually did a quarterback sneak?

Chuks Okorafor is so far holding his own as a rookie tackle. Mike Munchak is pleased with his progress which is good. He’s definitely had his ups and downs but until we see some game I’m not going to judge too much. It’s just that you really want as much as you can’t get from a higher draft pick like he was.

I’m not going to comment on Le’Veon Bell’s strip club video here other than to say this. It’s disappointing to see that he has still not matured during his NFL career. He could have easily gone and had a good time but the video wasn’t needed.

If you get rained out of camp on Wednesday or if you don’t, head to Taps N’At! It’s WINGS WEDNESDAY!!

On to the Stairway to Seven!
