SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Waiting Goes On” Edition

Good Monday to you Steelers’ Fans!

If I would have told you a month ago that the only outside free agent the Pittsburgh Steelers had signed would be a wide receiver how many of you would have believed that? If I added that it would be Justin Hunter then I’m guessing that would have elicited even more of a “what the hell?” type of response right? That’s where we are right now in free agency. After entertaining several cornerbacks and Dont’a Hightower, the Steelers have still done almost nothing in free agency. Many of you are thinking, “we never do anything in free agency anyway…” and you aren’t wrong. But with more cap room than we’ve seen in a long time it seemed a sure bet that at least one fairly large signing would be coming. Well, no. The waiting goes on for Steelers’ fans and the needs at cornerback and places that need depth remain untouched.

One of the things that happens as routinely as the birds returning from the South each spring is the narrative that every player that is draft eligible from either Penn State or Pitt is “on the Steelers’ radar.” EVERY player is on the Steelers’ radar right now. From Chris Godwin to James Conner, I can’t tell you how often I hear fans screaming for the Steelers to draft one or both of them. Is it possible the Steelers draft a player from one of these schools? Of course it is, but fans have to be able to separate their love of favorite college team from the love of their favorite pro team.

The Darrelle Revis talk has simmered a bit. At absolute best I’d take him for one year but I really don’t want him at all to be honest. I know he claims that last year his “body failed him,” but he just didn’t play well. It was a significant drop in play for the future hall of famer.

Tweet of the Day… First Day of Spring!

I will continue to rant against Instant Replay in sports especially after what happened to Northwestern in the NCAA Tournament this past weekend. Why are there reviews ONLY in the last two minutes? Does that mean the previous 18 minutes were less important? If you’re going to have replay then allow coaches to challenge whenever during the game. In my mind the only time replay should be used is on turnovers and scores. It’s a game played by humans and officiated by humans. There will always be mistakes. Life is no different.

Make sure you continue to check in on our ‘Draft Journals.’ We’ll be adding more players this week.

I love the people defending Ezekiel Elliott for pulling a woman’s top down recently by arguing that “she pulled her shirt down herself just a minute before that.” So in what way does that give Elliott permission to do it?

We are less than 40 days from the NFL Draft. Thank goodness…

Have a great Monday Steeler Nation!
