SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Tag Day” Edition

Good Monday to you Steelers’ Fans!

Today at 4pm Eastern, The Pittsburgh Steelers and Le’Veon Bell must have reached a long-term deal by then or else Bell plays under the Franchise Tag for roughly $12.3 million. While that isn’t the worst thing in the world for Bell, a long-term deal is certainly preferred. For the definitive breakdown read Ben’s piece from this weekend.

For the record, I do not believe a deal gets done…

Since he joined the Steelers as a rookie, Martavis Bryant’s name has been a real tongue-twister for many in the National Football League. For whatever reason, his first name is a struggle and I honestly don’t know why. It’s three freaking syllables. Mar-ta-vis. Not Mar-ta-vi-ous, Martavis!! Sheesh!

Training Camp begins in just 10 days!

Make sure you are catching up with Ian’s ‘Ten for Tomlin‘ series!

Tweet of the Day… Ike has been watching some tennis! Federer should be recognized as one of the all-time great athletes in my opinion.

Ezekiel Elliott was already facing a short suspension and now a report has surfaced this morning that he was involved in an altercation in a Dallas-Area bar last night. That’s not good for a team that believes it’s Super Bowl-ready.

Former Steelers’ offensive lineman Willie Colon was a host on ESPN’s ‘Mike and Mike’ this morning and did an excellent job. He’s very knowledgeable across a wide range of sports.

Look for a quick version of the Steel City Blitz Podcast presented by 26shirts.com/Pittsburgh tonight. We’ll discuss the outcome of today’s Franchise Tag Deadline.

I took a lot of crap from people for a piece I wrote in the spring about the lack of maturity in Martavis Bryant. Not surprisingly the bulk of the hate came from younger fans. I still have serious concerns about his maturity especially after his demand for a ‘man to man’ talk with Ben Roethlisberger. Maturity is something you gain as you grow older and I was far from perfect in my early 20’s too but perhaps this is more about common sense? Bryant needs to play, be a good teammate and stay clean. That should be his focus right now.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
