SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Optimistic” Edition

Good Thursday to you Steelers’ Fans!

Social media is what it is. You take everything you see, process it, then decide for yourself what to do with what you’ve learned. Le’Veon Bell, just days after telling the media things were closer than this time last year, posted one word to his Instagram. The word was “optimistic” and was accompanied by the ‘hand under chin thinking’ emoji. This of course had many people, including myself, wondering if a long-term deal really was possible. One word a deal does not make but this current situation feels a bit different than last year. What I can tell you from the Steelers’ perspective is that they aren’t going to move much if at all on their offer. If Bell has indeed come down from $17 million per season to $14.5 then discussions have no doubt been had. I’m not going to hold my breath here, but my own optimism is a tad higher today.

Here’s a bold prediction for the Steelers. Wide Receiver Markus Tucker will make the roster. Call it a hunch but the Steelers have always liked him and there’s a need there if Eli Rogers isn’t brought back.

Tweet of the Day… You tell’em AB!

According to Pro Football Focus, Bud Dupree is the Steelers’ “biggest weakness.” The ‘experts’ at PFF recently graded every team’s roster and found the Steelers to have the seventh-best roster with only David DeCastro and Antonio Brown receiving ‘elite’ status. Saying Dupree is a weakness is a like saying water is wet. Frankly these rankings are just as bad as those Power Rankings.

One of the lesser talked about rookies who is definitely flying under a lot of radars is Jaylen Samuels, the ‘jack of all trades’ from North Carolina State. From all accounts, he had an excellent spring and mini-camp and in many eyes is a lock for this roster.

Our latest World Cup Podcast is coming up in the next few days as we prepare for the Knockout Stage! My selection of Germany obviously did not pan out well.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
