SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Oh the Drama!” Edition

Good Monday to you Steelers’ Fans! Let’s get to it!

There are few things in Pittsburgh more polarizing than when Ben Roethlisberger speaks. Some of it is due to Roethlisberger himself who has created more storylines with his words then has been necessary but after all these years, he is what he is. What I’ve found though is that the real drama is not often caused by him, it’s caused by the reaction. Seeing Twitter and Facebook erupt following Big Ben’s comments was the least shocking thing I’ve seen in a long time but shouldn’t we look at this a bit differently?

Perhaps we should be giving credit to Roethlisberger for actually being honest. Fans and journalists are constantly screaming for “real takes” and honesty from these guys and when they finally get it they complain about it. There is no way I can deny that Ben has caused much of this himself. His “maybe I don’t have it anymore” comments last season are a prime example. At the same time however, we can’t be so quick to cast judgment. The Steelers felt drafting Mason Rudolph was the right move. Ben Roethlisberger does not. Let’s move on to things that carry much less drama shall we?

Have you seen recent pictures of Cam Heyward? I could be wrong but he looks much more physically defined in the upper half of his body than I recall seeing in recent years. I’d be very curious to know how his offseason program changed this year.

Tweet of the Day… Hard to disagree with Pomp here.

Former Steelers’ Safety Mike Mitchell claimed this weekend that he played 2017 with a broken foot. While I have no reason to doubt Mitchell I’m not sure how much it really mattered. His inability to communicate properly with other DBs was as significant of a problem as anything physical.

Speaking of safeties… Some talk this weekend about Sean Davis “officially” moving to free safety. While this was very much in the works because of the addition of so many strong or ‘in the box’ safeties, I still think you’ll see Davis used in numerous ways. First and foremost however, communication is a huge issue for this secondary and a major reason why Tom Bradley was brought in. If Davis struggles with that? Look for more shake-ups.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
