SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Morning After Vol. 2” Edition

Good Monday to you Steelers’ Fans!

The Pittsburgh Steelers moved to 2-0 with a 26-9 win over Minnesota. Here is the latest in the ‘morning after!’

With Anthony Chickillo replacing T.J Watt, James Harrison has to be wondering just what his role is on this team. Deebo apparently left the rocker room in a less than a good mood.

Speaking of Watt, his injury is not thought to be serious but we should know more over the next few days. Watt himself claimed “I’m not worried about it.” We’ll see.

The Steelers came into this game hoping to correct some serious penalty issues from week one. Well, things were better, but far from acceptable. The Steelers were hit with 10 flags Sunday for 72 yards. While the yardage total was half of last week, 10 penalties is still too many and the team knows it.

No winner for ‘Nail the Number’ so on to week 3 and $1,200 up for grabs!!

Tweet of the Day… The first home game without Mr. Rooney. A fitting end.

While the Vikings’ front seven is very good, the Steelers still aren’t running the ball the way they are capable. Part of that is Le’Veon Bell still not being up to speed and part of it is just an inability to open holes. The combination is not good right now.

In Todd Haley’s tenure as the Offensive Coordinator, the red zone success at home has been much better than it has been on the road. The Steelers were two for four on Sunday but there is serious work that needs to be done.

You can easily point to Sam Bradford’s absence as the major reason why the Vikings lost and one stat in particular is yards per pass. Case Keenum attempted 38 passes and the average pass was just 3.7 yards. This is largely the case with all backups in the NFL. Throw short, high percentage passes. The problem is how much it handcuffs the offense.

Congrats to JuJu Smith-Schuster for his first career TD which was a nifty little shovel pass. He did a very nice job of following his blockers. Good for the rook!

You may have seen that former Steeler Lawrence Timmons went MIA for a day and after explaining his absence to the team was inactive for the team’s game. Hope LT is OK.

I’m glad Martavis Bryant scored a TD Sunday. I’m also glad his girlfriend is no longer tearing him to pieces on social media. While Bryant wasn’t doing any tweeting, it’s still a poor look for him. I hope he continues to mature and puts himself around people who take personal issues to the public.

With 5.5 sacks on Sunday the Steelers now have 12.5 through two games. One against a rookie making his first career start and the other against a backup who didn’t know he was starting until late in the week. Regardless, this is an excellent sign for this defense going forward.

On to Chicago! Have a great week Steeler Nation!

Here’s my take, the next game continues preseason part2. This team came out of the gate not really ready. But we stand at 2-0 and all is well. It really is how you finish and i hope that is the game plan. Keeping Harrison’s snaps low and unleashing him after game 8 isn’t a bad idea. Everything is ok they just have to keep improving, all the pieces are there.

I would think that they would let Harrison know if that were the plan. Perhaps not, but it just seems odd not to give him the respect he’s due as a veteran. I do agree that the team overall hasn’t scratched the surface yet they are 2-0. They can’t play this way however in Baltimore.
