SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “It’s Not Your Choice” Edition

Good day to you Steelers’ Fans!!

Steelers’ Linebacker Ryan Shazier spoke to the press yesterday for the first time since his December 4th injury that left him with a broken back. Shazier entered the room using a cane and soon handed it to Steelers’ PR man Burt Lauten once he got to the podium. I published this just moments after his press conference in case you missed it but here’s my message today…. Stop telling Shazier he shouldn’t be thinking about playing football. It’s not your choice and it sure as heck isn’t mine. Do I wish that he’d just get better and enjoy life with the progress he’s made? Yes, I do but IT’S NONE OF MY BUSINESS. The last thing you or I would want is someone else telling us what to do with our lives. Some of the comments I’ve seen and articles I’ve read that are ripping him for even wanting to come back are mean and insensitive. We already know he isn’t playing this year. He’ll therefore have that much more time to rehab and if it indeed looks as though playing again isn’t an option then he’ll deal with that at that time. Let Shazier and the Steelers deal with his future.

Ben Roethlisberger returned from his vacation yesterday and was a full participant in OTAs…. Speaking of Big Ben, his former Offensive Coordinator Bruce Arians said “I don’t know if he’s ever been in better shape,” Arians said. “He looks fantastic. really excited about everything with Randy (Fichtner) and the offense and the weapons he’s got. I mean, every year we usually play golf at this time, and I don’t know if I’ve ever seen him more excited about getting ready to go.” Translation: He’s happy to have Todd Haley gone.

Tweet of the Day… Here’s one of Le’Veon’s hobbies during his time away from the team.

Really good point by our Ben Anderson yesterday as the crew discussed the Steelers as we do on a daily basis… When the Steelers cut Mike Mitchell they gained $5M against the cap. However, before his release Mitchell was offered a new 3 year deal at a lower salary. That deal between signing bonus and 2018 salary would have paid him $2.5M next season.
Mitchell decided to see what he could find on the open market. What’s the point? That Mitchell has to be regretting the fact he didn’t take the deal.

Cnic says to “Chill Out” on guys not attending OTAs.
