SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “It’s Getting Closer…” Edition

Good Monday to You Steelers’ Fans!

We have arrived in July! While the Steelers won’t appear on the game field until August, they WILL be on the fields of St. Vincent’s College in a little over three weeks. Yes, Training Camp in Latrobe is really that close! Here at SCB we couldn’t be more excited to get things rolling! From our daily ‘Training Camp Tidbits’ to our ‘Training Camp Position Battles’ we’ll have you covered!

The issue of ‘video game addiction’ has been discussed in larger circles in recent months. So much so that it is being used as a reason why certain players don’t perform well. The most publicized case of this was Boston Red Sox pitcher David Price. Like many people, he’s a big fan of the game ‘Fortnite’ and some media were suggesting he played it too much and it was hurting his performance. I bring this up because both Le’Veon Bell and JuJu Smith-Schuster are also very big gamers. The way I view this is very simple. If these guys are putting in the necessary time it takes to excel at the highest level and then they are enjoying some downtime on their PS4? I’m good with that. The problem will be if these two or any other players are constantly posting their games on social media during the season. Then on-field performance will become an even bigger item under the microscope.

As you probably saw, a lot of Steelers’ players attended plenty of Cleveland Cavaliers’ games the last few seasons. With LeBron off to LA I wonder how often they attend now?

Tweet of the Day… That escalated quickly.

I don’t have the answer to what would be a better solution to penalty kicks ending these World Cup games but I hate them. I’d rather see these guys play until they drop. Think about it; after 120 minutes of soccer they boil it down to which way the goalkeeper decides to dive. It’s exciting but games of that stature shouldn’t come down to this.

In a recent poll we held on Twitter, 61% of 533 voters believe that Bell will get a long-term contract. The two sides have two weeks from today to get this done.

Albert Breer of SI.com has reported that all NFL teams will be allowed to wear ‘alternate’ uniforms up to three different times this season. That does not specifically mean it has to be the ‘color rush’ uni but does allow for the throwbacks more than once or a combination of both.

Have a Great Day Steeler Nation!
