SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Is Green Ready to Rock” Edition

by Steeldad

Happy Thursday Steelers’ Fans! A week ago we were stuffing our faces with turkey and watching our Steelers win in Indy. Today? Not so much.

Ladarius Green has now had two games to get his “game legs” under him. While I think he and Ben Roethlisberger aren’t yet 100% in sync, I do have a feeling Green is ready to make some even bigger plays than he did last week. Todd Haley can line him up in a number of spots along the offensive front in order to create mismatches. I think this is the week we see him break out.

Much thanks to Joe Kuzma of Steel City Underground for having me on his podcast yesterday. Always good talking Steelers with Joe!

While it’s natural for comparisons because they were drafted in the same year and each have two Super Bowl wins, Eli Manning and Ben Roethlisberger have actually taken pretty different paths to this point. Personally I think the better comparison is between Manning and Philip Rivers because of all of the controversy surrounding Manning and San Diego. Plus, they were drafted 1-2.

Thanks to Twitter friend and friend of the site Bill for pointing out a mistake I made yesterday. I posted a pic of DeAngelo Williams’ custom cleats which were very cool. I also said he’d probably get fined. Bill reminded me that this week, players are allowed to wear custom cleats for a cause of their choosing.

Tweet of the Day…. Vince Williams speaks the truth!

John Clayton, on ESPN Insider, said that he believes Steelers’ Offensive Coordinator Todd Haley will get another head coaching stint before too long. He bases this on Haley’s development of the Steelers’ offense and Ben Roethlisberger. I’m not so sure I agree. If he was going to get another opportunity I think it would have happened already.

This is a big week for the offensive line. They’ve underperformed in my opinion but they’ve been significantly better over the last couple of weeks. The Giants will be big, fast and physical along their front four and this should give us an idea of just how good the Steelers’ offensive line really is.

Non-NFL thought… If I were the King I would make a 16-team college football playoff. I would take the conference champion from each of the ten conferences and then add six at-large teams. No at-large team could have more than two losses. First tie-breaker would be head-to-head, second would be strength of schedule. First and second round games would be played at home-field of highest seed. Semi-finals and Final would be like current situation.

Can’t say enough about the progression of Artie Burns. I really didn’t think he’d see the field much at cornerback this year as he developed his raw, athletic ability. He literally has made improvements in every game since he’s started. Very high ceiling for this kid!

Have a great Thursday Steeler Nation!
