SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Ever-Changing Secondary” Edition

Good Wednesday to you Steelers’ Fans!

Here’s what we know as of today about the Pittsburgh Steelers’ secondary. Artie Burns will man one cornerback spot while recently acquired Joe Haden will man the other. Second year man Sean Davis will be on the field somewhere and who he is joined by right now is a mystery that perhaps only Scooby-Doo and the gang can solve. The positive in this is that it appears the Steelers may be able to interchange some parts and more specifically, their safeties. Already this week, Davis has seen time at both strong and free safety and the same can be said for J.J. Wilcox. While Mike Mitchell has been at practice I’m not confident that he plays Sunday. That likely means Rob Golden will start. Adding to all of this will be just who the slot corner is and that seems to be Mike Hilton. Remember, the Steelers spend less and less time in the base 3-4 defense every single year so that means variations of nickel and dime packages and more. If the guys mentioned can be interchangeable then it allows Keith Butler that much more flexibility.

It was fitting yesterday that Le’Veon Bell got into a social media spat with ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith. Earlier in the day, Dejan Kovacevic (DKonPittsburghSports.com) wrote a terrific piece on how Mike Tomlin handles his players. The comments about Bell’s immaturity were not surprising at all and his tweets at Smith were further proof of it.

As of right now, T.J. Watt will start ahead of James Harrison. He will be going up against perennial all-pro Joe Thomas. Good luck rookie!

Tweet of the Day… Next time you want to complain about the Steelers….

Did you miss the all new “Special Edition Nail the Number?” You don’t want to miss your chance to win $2,500!!

Over/under on Bell’s touches on Sunday? Put me down for 25 (and the over).

In our daily discussions yesterday Ian produced some numbers on Ben Roethlisberger’s home vs away performances the last few years that are quite staggering. Check them out in his ‘Behind the Numbers’ article coming later this week.

Cnic will give you your top fantasy football options for week one as well!

Have an outstanding Wednesday Steeler Nation!

The thing about our secondary is that we and our competition have no idea what we are going to do. Lets see if coach Butler is that good. And if the answer is tackle the catch it’s same old soft zone.
